Checking simple lighting and socket circuit diagrams

Thanks for your reply -- See attached photo. As for 'large loads,' I asked the electrician who installed the unit and he said that nothing I intended to run would be a problem. The context is that he suggested I wire the lights and sockets myself, and he return to check over and ok the work.

Checking simple lighting and socket circuit diagrams

There's a fuse board in my outbuilding (with nothing currently attached to it) and I'd like to add a simple lighting and socket setup. Three lights all controlled by one switch, and four or five plug sockets spaced around the room. Unfortunately I can't get the images in the FAQ thread at the...

    Wiring reclaimed light

Oh yeah -- I can use shims or washers when closing it up to ensure there's a gap so air can circulate.

    Wiring reclaimed light

Yeah, that looked mental to me, though I'm no expert. I just wanted to check that when those wires are goine it will be safe to attach the three wires to the terminals visible there.

    Wiring reclaimed light

Sure -- here as a whole, and with the part that receives the bulb attached. Unsafe to use?

Wiring plug socket, 'to functional earth'

Great, thank you. The cable's 2.5mm but Screwfix doesn't seem to have green/yellow sleeving in that diameter in quantities of less than 100m. Is it ok to use a larger diameter sleeve, since I can get that in smaller lengths?

Wiring plug socket, 'to functional earth'

So would this be the gist of it? Sorry for the entry-level questions, just conscious this is an area where you don't want to mess around.

    Wiring reclaimed light

Ok thanks! Is there anything else I can show that would be helpful? And is it something where if I got a professional electrician to make it safe it would be useable? Or just unsalvageable junk ...

Wiring plug socket, 'to functional earth'

Sorry to make more than one thread, but I figured it was clearer to do separate threads for separate questions. I need to put in a couple of sockets and the ones I bought contain something I haven't seen before -- the instructions specify connecting a wire 'to functional earth'. I've included a...

    Wiring reclaimed light

My wife bought a couple of reclaimed old lights over ebay and I'd like to check whether you think they're safe to use. This is exactly how it appeared when I popped it open. If I were to get rid of the wires that are currently in there and wire live to the left, neutral to the right, and earth...

    name of ceiling fitting

That looks good I think. I think I'll use the black conduit; I'd been thinking about galvanised conduit but started to fret about having to spend too much time sitting down with the die set trying to get it to fit -- plus I wasn't sure if I'd have to earth it & if so how. I can follow a diagram...

    name of ceiling fitting

Thanks for getting back to me! Sorry not to have explained myself properly -- the cable is going to have to run along the surface of the joist and the fitting is going to have to be mounted directly on the joist, as it's a pretty simple timber framed building with all the framing exposed. Like a...

    name of ceiling fitting

Hi -- I'm installing three ceiling lights in a workshop. They're old lights from a barn and each hangs on a chain. I'm going to hang them from the joist that runs along the length of the pitched roof. I understand the wiring diagram for the circuit, what cable to use, etc., but I just don't know...

    quick simple question about shelves

Lovely, I thought so, just wanted to check that all the weight pulling to one side wouldn't be an issue. Couldn't see how but wanted to make sure.

    quick simple question about shelves

I'm installing a bunch of bookshelves about 2.2m long, supported by cast iron brackets of the type pictured. I've done five brackets per shelf at about 400 on centre, both because under load the brackets flex a little on account of their shape, and also to hopefully spread out and reduce the...

Tiling on skim coat and plasterboard

Hi -- I have a very quick question about substrates. I've got two backsplashes for tiling, one that's had a skim coat and one that's 9mm plasterboard mounted on battens (to even out a very uneven wall for installing the cabinets). The tiles are 8mm thick, so about 18kg / m2 without adhesive...

Is this what I need? -- https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B08HLZ392Q?ref=ppx_pt2_mob_b_prod_image I had been told that 3/4in and 22mm were interchangeable.
