Wiring reclaimed light

My wife bought a couple of reclaimed old lights over ebay and I'd like to check whether you think they're safe to use. This is exactly how it appeared when I popped it open. If I were to get rid of the wires that are currently in there and wire live to the left, neutral to the right, and earth to the clip at the top (then up into the wago clip in the ceiling rose), would that be ok? Pretty basic question I know, but I don't want to take any steps without an ok from people who know. Cheers!

Personally, without seeing the rest of it I would throw it in the bin. It looks totally unsafe from your pic..

Ok thanks! Is there anything else I can show that would be helpful? And is it something where if I got a professional electrician to make it safe it would be useable? Or just unsalvageable junk ...

Sure -- here as a whole, and with the part that receives the bulb attached. Unsafe to use?

As long as it's properly earthed I don't see anything obvious wrong with it.

Whoever wired it up last time seems to have been a numpty though. The earth should *NOT* be connected to the neutral.

Live to the terminal lower left, neutral to the terminal lower right, earth to the terminal on is own with the earth symbol above it. Make your connections correctly, not like the ones in the photo with too much copper on display.

Yeah, that looked mental to me, though I'm no expert. I just wanted to check that when those wires are goine it will be safe to attach the three wires to the terminals visible there.

There‘s nothing wrong with the lamp holder that I could see.
The one problem might be that there‘s access to single-insulated wires when you open the light to change the lamp.

An LED lamp, fitted in that very enclosed space, will not last long. It's own waste heat will wreck the electronics of an LED.
Oh yeah -- I can use shims or washers when closing it up to ensure there's a gap so air can circulate.
