I need replacements asap and can not wait for online delivery. Does anyone know if any nationwide bricks and mortar stores sell large stuff?

    sacrificial sanding paint layers.

I want to prep my floorboards for painting but I do not want to sand the old paint off which is probably lead paint. Does anyone have any advice for such a scenario? I was considering layering a few layers of undercoat and then light sand. Would this work do you think?

Stripping victorian staircase. What is this tar like stuff?

I've been stripping the staircase. I started with the gloss paint which is coming off fine. I uncovered the newel post which was boxed in. It looked a very dark brown but not shiny like varnish. I put paint stripper on and now its like tar. Its a nightmare to get off i which i didn't start! All...

    is this asbestos?

I didn't notice any sparkle. As for the age I have no idea. The house is over 100 yes but as for when it was bricked up I have no idea. If I cover it up the would be no ventilation for the chimney so I'm stumped. There seems to be rubble in there I hope I've not disturbed it to much. The room is...

    is this asbestos?

I ripped out a electric fireplace and blocking the chimney but with a whole in it looks like a price of plasterboard but not pink like gypsum more like cement. I didn't like the look of it so I've but the fire back in place. Does this sound like asbestos? I've attached some images.[/img]

I it more efficent to have more radiators working less hard?

'm on prepaid as it was a rental before purchasing it. I've properly put closer to £120 in it in the last 30 days. I've considered insulating under the floorboards and loft. Its a lot of expense, and what sort of savings are you likely to get?

I it more efficent to have more radiators working less hard?

I'm in a old mid terrace. With three storeys. There is 11 radiators 3 of which i would call large single and 1 medium sized double. We have a large 35kw a rated boiler. From what i have read this would run around 20 radiators. Would it be more efficient to add more radiators so they are not...

Thank you Tony. Would this build even be classed as a outbuilding and would it be restricted to the 50% rule?

Can this be built with permitted development?

I've touched on this before but i was finding it hard to explain so i've got some crap drawings to help :) My house is on a hill with the house ground level higher than the rear garden. In picture one (not to scale!) you can see the garden cut in 2 levels with a car port at the rear with...

Do you know what this is on my walls?

I've been stripping wallpaper from my walls. You can see a mark where a dado rail was and above this there are patches of grey stuff that i assumed was paint but its a odd colour. I was hoping someone would know what it is and the best way to remove it. I started to sand it but its slow going...

Edwardian house can not find a dpc

Sorry for the late reply. It may look like it in the picture but the solid floor is below ground level. The whole wall has damp issue's mainly due to the raised step and failed render. I can not see behind the kitchen units to see if there is any more issues at ground level. I would like...

Edwardian house can not find a dpc

I'm planning on digging up all the pathway over the weekend and try and lower the level. The foundations a lot shallower than i expected. How low do i dig above the foundations. I was planning to lay some membrane and gravel then sort out the downpipes away from the wall edge. Will this be the...

Edwardian house can not find a dpc

Thank you for your reply Its wet because I was using a wet brush to try and clean the stones looking for the slate. The PVC was cracked already when we moved in. The walls are all papered so would well have a crack hidden below it. When you knock the wall one part sounds hollow. There...
