    Turret orientation

I’m look at putting a hikvision DS-2CD2385G1-I turret camera on a wall. This will cover the back door and the path leading up to it. If I were to put this type of camera on a vertical wall looking horizontally across, wouldn’t the picture be 90 degrees out? Can you turn the black face with the...

    Steel beam and plasterboard

Yes, we had building control out end of last week, to check the beams. Only thing he picked up on, was the joist hangers didn’t have a screw in every single hole. Which is easily fixed. We ask about the plasterboard, and he said standard 12.5mm is rated at 30 mins so is happy for us to single...

    Steel beam and plasterboard

I think I follow. So if the whole ceiling is rated at 30mins, there is no need to put plasterboard on the sides of the beam?

    Steel beam and plasterboard

I’ve just installed 4 steel beams in my house, do I still need to box them in with plasterboard if they are at joist level (the ceiling will be flush). The structural calculations only say 30 mins fire proof. If I were to use the fire retardant board on the bottom of steel, would that be enough?

Window surveyor saying I need lintels

I’m in the process of getting my windows changed to double glazing. The surveyor came out and said I need nine lintels putting in. I spoke to the original builder who built the house back in the 60s, he said the inner leaf has a casted in situ concrete lintel with butterfly wall ties wrapped...

Do I need a mid span restrain on beams

I didn’t want the beam sticking through the ceiling, if that what a down stand is. The SE knew this. The wall above is single skin block, which makes this beam even worse. If I was to mention about a 152x152x 37or44 ub as that’s the beam we put in at my previous house which was slightly...

Do I need a mid span restrain on beams

I’m after a bit more info before I phone the SE. I will be installing 3 beams in total, 2 in the cavity wall mentioned in this thread and also another. This one is a 254x146UB31, the plan was to put in at joist level so we can have a flush ceiling below. I’ve just realised the joists are 175mm...

Do I need a mid span restrain on beams

ive just had my SE calc come through for taking out a cavity wall for an extension. I’ve noticed on the internal UB, he put that I should put wood packers and joist hangers for the upstairs joists. But this is not the case as the joists run parallel with the beam. My question is, the calcs say...

DPC above new cavity wall lintel

Thanks for explaining that, I will put in a catnic one in, it looks a pain putting in a separate DPC. Would I still need to put in weep holes. Are they just plastic holes which go through the mortar. Sorry woody I just googled boot lintels so I know what you mean now. I was looking at putting...

DPC above new cavity wall lintel

Thanks woody for your quick reply. So is what your saying all cavity wall lintel with a slope in the cavity don’t need a DPC sheet above the lintel and only need weep holes through the mortar. When looking at other makes of lintels the diagrams show a DPC sheets included. Is this not...

DPC above new cavity wall lintel

We are looking at putting a new window into a cavity wall. Ive put in a couple of internal lintels before but never in a cavity wall. I am slightly worried about the DPC as most cavity wall lintels mentions DPC required. Searching the internet there isn’t much information on how to install a DPC...
