Yes, the window does have a trickle vent, but the room still gets very hot as there is little circulation, hence why I was thinking of a roof vent as well to create circulation. Thnaks CP

Tha doesnt look like it. It is a decrotive strip that I have seen, it sits between every board and overlaps each joint by around 10-15mm. Thnaks anyway. CP

Hi noseall The cupboard will be to the centre of the chimney, leaving a gap either side of the cupboard within the chimney. I agree about the soot, which is why I will ensure it is fully boarded and sealed. Any ideas on the support side? Hopefully this is a bit clearer! CP
