Hi

I am having an new bathroom suite ftted, and to creat some storage I am looking at 'building' in to the chimney breast. The chimney isnt in use and the cupboard I want will be around 1Mx0.6M, which I will put in a concrete lintel boarded out inside, then put some doors on.

What I need to know, is will this some under building control? If it doesnt, is it possible to calculte the laoding the lintel will have?

What do you mean by 'building into the chimney breast'?

It is unclear as to whether you are removing a chunk from the side or the whole thing. Maybe you are positioning this cupboard in the centre of the breast, who knows?

The problem you may have is sooted bricks and venting the flues.

Hi noseall

The cupboard will be to the centre of the chimney, leaving a gap either side of the cupboard within the chimney. I agree about the soot, which is why I will ensure it is fully boarded and sealed.

Any ideas on the support side?

Hopefully this is a bit clearer!
