Advised to turn the dial on oil boiler down to one if really cold winter. Advise please.

The longevity of many old oil boilers means there are still lots which were installed before the availability of todays 'sophisticated' controls. With gas boilers, the old cast boilers are pretty well extinct, but there are still lots of 2 pipe oil systems, and outside installations which kept...

DHW and options. This will not be DIY plumber coming Monday, want ideas?

A 7" immersion heater fitted in the top will only heat the top of the cylinder. Can you not fit a longer immersion heater?

Amazon Hive Oil boiler with 2 pump

To retain the control as yo have it at present you need to replace the switched feed from your wall switches to the corresonding outlets on your Hive and the you will have remote control. I could probably do it if it were my own system, but I don't know enough of yours, and as you admit to no...

Amazon Hive Oil boiler with 2 pump

This will basically be a gravity hot water , pumped heating but with a pump to assist the hot water. There will be 2 flow pipes and 2 returns at the boiler. The OP does say that with the heating on, the hot water does heat up, and I would imagine that with only the hot water on, there would be...

Do I need this auto air vent in my system

It would appear to be fitted to relieve a otential air lock in the pump outlet. The fact it has leaked suggests it has 'operated'. I would be inclined to close trhe cap and occasionally opening it manually with a cloth handy to catch drips to relieve any air that may have built up.

    Riello G5X Burner Logic

The Control Box is detecting incomplete circuitry with the coils disconnected, As you 'cured' the situation, I would not be tempted to analyse the internal workings of one of the most reliable units in the industry.

    Riello G5X Burner Logic

Classic photocell failure for the first fault. When you remade the connection and it fired, what did you do with the wire when you next removed it?

    Heatslave 20/25 lockout advice appreciated

Are you sure you have oil going to the burner? You need to prove the flow to the flexi. Have you also checked to make sure there is no by pass screw fitted if you are running on a one pipe system? Don't mean to be rude, but have you fitted the same pump and did you fit the drive dog?

    Heatslave 20/25 lockout advice appreciated

Sounds like an air lock in the fuel line. What model burner is fitted to the boiler? When you changed the oil pump, did you set the pressure with a gauge? If not, then go back to basics and make sure there is pressure. Where and when are you measuring the voltage to the solenoid? If at the plug...

    Replacement for Danfoss 3060 timer?

The options you need to establish are Y plan, S plan Cplan or GRAVITY HW. I think you may be confusing gravity with an open system. The pointer a lot of the time is how many flow and return connections your boiler has. Pumped systems will have one of each, whilst gravity hot water will have 2 of...

    Aga ranges

So we still don't know what is your problem. Is this a bespoke oil Aga or a converted one? I had lots of customers who always 'serviced' their own appliances but was called in to 'service' it when their efforts failed. The biggest problems with self service occurred with blocked filters, air...

Oily smell from Worcester Bosch Greenstar Heatslave 2 25/32

Looking back at your posts, I would start again at the point where the supply pipe enters the room. There may be a joint external to the boiler that is weeping, or even an unprotected pipe that has been eroded by mortar.

How much does control methods change the fuel used in central heating?

It has only gone over the top for people who have too much time (and money) on their hands.

    Pressure reducing valve

What problems do you have? Do you have anything that is pressure sensitive? Some oil combi's were stated to only have 3 bar cold inlet and happily blew seals if overpressured. If you have nothing to protect, then I would not bother.

    Tap re-seater tool thread type

I would have thought the 1/2" would screw into that tap. I doubt if it is anywhere near the age of the house. Having said that, I don't know what you paid for the kit, but it would have gone a long way towards a new tap. It looks like someone's had a right fit with that one.

TRV and wall thermostat in the same room, how can it work any other way?

It all depends on the relative settings of the thermostats. Presumably the wall stat is a full system thermostat and controls the whole system whereas the TRV are specific to one room. Surely the normal set up would have a full system control in a relatively open area, with localised control for...

    Danesmoore 20/25 driving me mad

No spark is indicative of either photocell fault, faulty transformer or control box. When the spark fails, after checking the electrode connections and leads, disconnect the transformer lead and check for voltage at the plug. If there is no power then you've probably found the fault. To...
