    Roof sheathing

Hi Emma As you live North of the border I guess we can see sarking sheets of ply rather than the more traditional tongue and groove planks. For sure, I’d leave things well alone as the roof shell will be very strong and ply can warp under it’s own weight. Regards! John

    Stiga powered mountfield wont start

I don't know if this particular machine has a fuel tap or not, but when you remove the float bowl you'll see the plastic float inside. Raising this with your finger shuts off the fuel flow, which will start again when the float drops. John :)

    Stiga powered mountfield wont start

The choke flap is the one on the right of the picture. It may be automatically operated, but the flap must close completely to get a cold start. Of course, there may be a blockage within - in which case its float bowl off (carb removed) using the central bolt, followed by the main jet and...

    Stiga powered mountfield wont start

In which case there will be some sort of choke mechanism. Often the carb has two flaps in it, operated by rods. One nearest the engine is the throttle, the other nearest the air cleaner is the choke. John :)

    Stiga powered mountfield wont start

Before you dive in......what sort of choke does the machine have - is it via a primer bulb or a lever on top of the carb? A photo of the carb would really help if you can. John :)

    Threading the strimmer correctly

There should be a rewind direction arrow somewhere on the spool; Always use the correct diameter line; Don't wind too much line on the spool; When using the line auto feed, bump the head on soft ground after giving the machine a rev and then letting it slow a bit. John :)

    TPMS Replacement

Has the tyre fitter no comment on this one, Doug? Surely he will have seen this before.......maybe the sensor was a dud. John :)

Makita Multi hex screw thread gone

Blackened Allen screws are often very hard. If it was mine, I’d try hammering an Imperial key slightly oversize in, but failing that I’d grind some flats very carefully and use an adjustable spanner to shift it. John.

Makita Multi hex screw thread gone

A picture if you can please! Some screws are so hard you'd never drill them so grind down a couple of flats if possible! John :)

    TPMS Replacement

I can't say for sure Doug but on some vehicles you have to cover around 100 miles before it sorts itself out. John :)

Anyone here converted a Japanese import into a camper?

I'm pretty familiar with the older Mazda Bongo - Ford Freindee - the one with the Ford 2.5 Turbo diesel, permanent 4X4 auto. Many of these have had some sort of conversion by now and that may be the cheapest way to proceed - the owners club / website is very thorough for all of your needs. I...

    Mount field 725M no drive.

Make sure the belt from engine to the gearbox is intact and correctly routed, so when it is tensioned by the clutch pedal the drive takes place and the gearbox pulley spins. Post back if this happens and we’ll take it from there. John

    Hayter 13/30 not starting

If the engine will spin it's ready to go . Try taking the plug out and spinning the engine over ( is the plug wet?) and trying again using full choke. Ensure the choke butterfly closes fully! John

    Glue together CV Boots.

They may last a few revolutions..... One of the worst inventions ever. John :)

    Bosch Shredder - Defective Switch

I think maybe you could come up with some method of at least, using the machine........the ATCO equivalent switch has gone AWOL too. You would lose some overload protection and the reversing facility though. John :)

Do I need to prime this metal?

For pock marks, read tiny scratches! I use etching primer on any metal, in my case 99% steel and it hasn't let me down at all.......where ordinary primer has. John :)

Do I need to prime this metal?

If it was mine, I'd head for a motor factors and buy an aerosol of etching primer really does adhere to the metal. If you want to fill up those pock marks, get a can of high build primer too! John :)

    Toyota Rav 4 Oxygen Sensor

Seriously I'd be looking very closely at the underside - I rate the RAV4 very much but boy, are some of them crumbly with rust! The O2 sensors wouldn't bug me but a new exhaust may well be needed, the silencer is huge. No issues with the transmission but they've all needed new fuel filler pipes...

    MPV Upgrade

I guess it depends on the piggy bank really, the Toyota Land Cruiser has been around for ages and if it's OK underneath it could be a good buy. The Pro Ace is completely Citroen as you say, but Toyota are good at sorting the emissions issue. If you buy this one second hand, it's likely to have...

Which way to use this crimping tool?

Often enough, automotive terminals are flash welded to the wiring and then the terminal lugs bent over. Soldered joints don't fail particularly, but if you find the wire strands have turned black due to oxidisation soldering can be difficult. John
