    Fantom extractor fan

Odd problem here, which I am hoping someone will be able to help! I had an extractor fan fitted 10 months ago. It is a normal Manrose bathroom fan bought from B&Q, which has a timer but does not have a humidistat. It is turned on when the bathroom light is switched on and when the light...

    Selection switch

he says there will be too many switches so there will not be enough room on the wall. I think he is talking rubbish as it is only an extra switch to the timer. but he says that timeguard is not very good and he had to replace one only 5 months old and that horstmann is better and will last...

    Selection switch

would overload be a possibility with this as JohnW2 suggested? if i put in a double pole switch to replace the current socket and from there run to a 16A immersion timer then from the timer run to this selection switch that you suggest. Then the two immersion heaters run into this...

    Selection switch

Is there such an electrical switch which allows you to choose which immersion heater to use in a tank? At the moment my hot water tank has 2 separate heaters, each 3kW rated. There is a cable running out of each of them which I can plug into the wall socket one at a time. I know this is...

Tap leaks from the inside down the supply pipe

@charnwood, i have a homecare agreement with British Gas which includes plumbing and drains from Dynorod. The policy excludes replacing or repairing taps. I suspect what you have said about the rubber seal in the hot tail being broke is the correct guess. Is the tap worth repairing in this...

Tap leaks from the inside down the supply pipe

My kitchen tap is leaking from the inside on the hot water side so the water runs down the supply pipe. Dynorod has come out to isolate the leak but it means that I can only get cold water from the tap now. Can the tap be repaired? It is a mixer tap.

    Dodgy door

I have a problem where the door handle to an internal door keeps falling off and I can't put it back on as there are so many holes in that area there is nothing for the screws to grip on. Any ideas on how to fix this apart from superglue the handle to the door?

    Painting after wall paper removed

I removed the wall paper from a plastered wall and then painted the plaster with dulux once emulsion but it all started to crack and flake off. Do you have to treat the surface before you can paint over it after taking the wall paper off?

the gas safe guy said that it was faulty so he had to disconnect it as otherwise the boiler won't turn on. at the time he advised that the thermostat should be used to regulate the boiler.

Can all taps be repaired or refurbished?

strangely enough, the taps have started to work fine now. not really sure what happened to it to make it work again of its own accord.

    Connecting timer to combi boiler

My boiler was installed without the existing timer connected. Is it an easy job to connect the current timer to the boiler now? I plan to get a gas safe engineer to do this but wonder if it would be a big job and cost a lot?

Can all taps be repaired or refurbished?

I have a very nice mixer tap in the bathroom which works fine with cold water but gives very little hot water. I don't want to throw it out as it is very expensive. Can any tap be refurbished / repaired?

    Immersion heater element burns out

I don't think it is a voltage problem as I have another flat in the same block and that does not have a problem. The element gets replaced every 1.5 years so I don't think anything can be loose in the wiring as this gets replaced when the immersion heater gets replaced.

    Immersion heater element burns out

My immersion heating element seems to burn out every 1.5 years. The hot water in the flat is provided by the immersion heater and an electric shower. I have replaced the immersion heating element with a titantinium one but it still seem to burn out just as regularly. Is this normal?

    Cooker fuse keeps blowing

i am not an electrician so i don't know about the cable size but i think they should be sufficient. the isolating switch may well be a double pole switch but it had a 13A fuse in it which you can replace when blown. What sort of amp should be in there?

Laying paving slabs direct onto earth

i think you are right about the clay soil as it is so toxic and hard that the grass won't grow on it which is why i am having to put the slabs down.

    Cooker fuse keeps blowing

it is on a dedicated circuit back to the consumer unit but there is a spur switch on the wall in the kitchen which allows the 3 units to be isolated from the mains for maintenance work on them. i think this is easier than switching the switch off on the consumer unit off every time you need to...
