Vaillant Eco Tec Plus Hot Water Heat Exchanger replacement

I think this is leaking, or at least a joint to it. How big a job is it to replace, for a boiler engineer. It looks like a new part is about £100. Thanks.

Vaillant Ecotec Plus 831 - removing front cover

You got me there. Still, just replaced the heat exchanger, pressure vessel and diverter valve no problem. All seems to work OK now and the leak's stopped, so jobs a good 'un.

Vaillant Ecotec Plus 831 - removing front cover

Oh dear. I've already done it, as per installation/service manual. The bottom screw, as described in the installation manual, was missing. Despite last being serviced by Vaillant, whose engineers are 'competent persons'. Maybe I'll sue them for not putting the screw back in. Thanks for...

Vaillant Ecotec Plus 831 - removing front cover

morning chaps. and chapesses. I'v got one of these boilers. There's water coming from the around the grommet, on the underside, where the electric cable goes in. I'm absolutely sure it's not coming from any of the external pipes. So to find out what's leaking I'll need to get in. Can I...

Protecting oak window board while plastering?

Thanks very much. Yes, will fix after plasterer, onto timber. By the way, what would you use to seal it. This is the window in a downstairs toilet. Top hung, small, window opener, which will only actually open an inch or two. Basin is in another room. So it shouldn't get wet. But I bet...

Protecting oak window board while plastering?

I've got a piece of oak window board. I'm going to fix it using grip fill (onto bare brickwork, should be ok). The plasterer is coming tomorrow to plaster. I'll let him plaster it in. This will be a skim coat only. He's plastering onto painted brickwork prepared with Febbond. Do I need to...

    Certificates - what needs it?

Thanks very much for the replies folks. Though I have to say I'm not really that much clearer. I guess I'll either have to just accept his certificates or else find the regulations and try to interpret them myself.

    Certificates - what needs it?

Thanks for the reply. The consumer unit is very new, and each circuit is individually covered by an RCD, so maybe the electrician was confident of it. It's covered by a certificate from when it was installed. Thanks.

Noggins for plasterboard. 600mm too far apart.

Just preparing for plasterer. It's a downstairs toilet. 850 wide. I'm going to insulate it and then make a framework under than in 45x35mm timber. Is 600mm to far apart for the noggins? Thanks

    Double insulation

I'm about to do a downstairs toilet ceiling. The roof above it is a flat roof. Plan - not bother trying to stuff mineral wool in between the rafters because a)it's a pain, b)there's a nice ventilation space there without it. Instead. fix Celotex/Kingspan/whatever PIR type board I can get...

    bette upstand experience

No, just a standard one. The upstand is a really good idea but: 1. It added (from memory) about £300. 2. There's no wiggle room. You need a dead square room. If you look at Bette's instructions it's clear they're really expecting the up stand bath to go into a new build. The corner of...

The dreaded Part P. Replacing 'like for like' in kitchen?

Actually, there might be observant Jews who don't turn the lights on on the Sabbath. I know some who won't answer the telephone. Joists run at 90 degrees to the lights, so depending where the mounting holes are I'll have to find 2. Should be possible. Thanks.

The dreaded Part P. Replacing 'like for like' in kitchen?

Thanks. Maybe he or I misunderstood. Either way he wasn't willing to issue completion certificates for the new circuits so we booked somebody else.

The dreaded Part P. Replacing 'like for like' in kitchen?

I quite like reading. I sometimes wonder if I should change career and be an electrician, as it seems it's less to do with electricity and more to do with staying up all night reading regulations. Our previous electrician is semi retired and isn't Part P anymore. He was perfectly straight -...

The dreaded Part P. Replacing 'like for like' in kitchen?

Thanks folks. Does the fact that it's in a kitchen not make a difference? I was under the impression that electical work in kitchens and bathrooms was always notifiable. I suppose that's the problem with this Part P stuff. Lots of us are 'under an impression' of one sort of another. And as...

The dreaded Part P. Replacing 'like for like' in kitchen?

I'm doing the kitchen. There were two 'old fashioned' fluorescent batten lights. I took them down and replaced them with temporary pendant lights while plastering, painting etc was being done. Did I do anything 'illegal' there? I've got new T5 double fluorescents. Can I fix those and wire...

Fixing cabinets through back panel with spacers?

We're halfway through a kitchen refit. Our now ex-kitchen fitter has fitted units back to the wall with L plates, side panel to wall. I see from various videos that this is standard. But when I took the old one out some of them were fitted through the back panel (the thick one at the top)...

    Risk of drain-off leaking

Just doing some plumbing in kitchen in preparation for kitchen fitters tomorrow. I was going to fit drain offs on H & W because this will be the lowest part of the system. But there are already drain offs which are just a little bit higher elsewhere in the house. The ones in the kitchen...
