im trying to drill through 3mm of stainless steel with a hand drill. Ive tried a HSS drill bit and a titanium coated drill bit without luck; it drills about halfway through but wont go any more regardless of how hard i try. any tips for drilling holes?

cheers for replies so far. I've checked with one of those electrical pens and it does register electricity going through all of the way through to the bulb. Unfortunately, there are no markings on the bulbs so i don't know what wattage they are. I'll replace them with 12v 40w to check...

yes, the right hand switch is for the ceiling light and there is only 1 switch (i bought 2 way switches as they hadnt any 1 ways at my local wilkinsons. ill try with 2 reds into the COM on the right hand switch tonight. thanks.

yes, theyre low energy light bulbs. by trying to DIM them i assume you mean replace the switch with a dimmer? if so, i tried that but it didnt work. If not, i dont know what DIM stands for. definitely not a problem with the bulbs, ive tried them in another (exactly the same) light unit...

sorry, yes i did connect up the two red wires into the same hole in the switch. checked that the two black wires into the connector are fine also. tested bulbs also ill take some photos and post them later on today

this is how i have it connected it at the moment and the lights dont work. ive got one of those current reading pens and theres a current going all the way through to the lights, but theyre still not coming on. theres current going through both the red wires also. any ideas?

yes, sorry should have explained. im just using the switch as a 1 way switch (not controlling it from anywhere else), and im doing away with the dimmer for a normal switch.

cheers. yes, im just expecting the switch to work as 1 way. the markings on the switch are "1 way" at the top left and "2 way" at the top right. the bottom switch is marked "common". ill with the 2 reds in "common" and the single in "1 way". back shortly....
