washing machine plumbing - what part do i need?

recently moved into a house and the washing machine plumbing is leaking a little. Looks like suds are coming up the pipe in the pic below and overflowing. its not a lot of water (maybe 50ml per cycle).
do i need to replace the white vertical pipe with the arrow in the pic? what should i replace it with?

A hosetail spigot on the end of the vertical pipe, or in place of the blanking plug to the right, and a blanking plug on the end of the vertical pipe would do the job, but replcing the trap and air admittance valve (which serves no purpose with the setup in the picture) with a washing machine standpipe may be simpler.
