im trying to replace a dimmer switch with a 2 way switch, without success.

currently, there's a single red wire going into one hole at the top of the dimmer and two red wires going into another hole at the top. There's a hole with nothing in at the bottom of the dimmer.
theres an earth wire connecting to the metal backing plate in the wall, and three black wires going into a connector and nothing coming out the other side.
i've tried connecting up my 2 way switch with the single red wire at the top left hole and 2 red wires in the top right hole and nothing in the bottom hole but it doesnt work. Any ideas where im going wrong?

can post some pics if this will help explain a little better.

What markings are by each terminal?

Obviously, you're fitting a 2-way switch but only expecting it to work as a 1-way?

From the sound of it, the two reds should be connected to a common terminal, maybe marked as C or COMM and the single red connected to L1.
Leave the blacks as they are, they're neutrals.

You have a L&N in and out and a SW&N.

cheers.
yes, im just expecting the switch to work as 1 way.

the markings on the switch are "1 way" at the top left and "2 way" at the top right. the bottom switch is marked "common".

ill with the 2 reds in "common" and the single in "1 way".

back shortly....
