New combi boiler recommendations for rads and WUFH

Hi all, I'm currently having some issues with my boiler 'Vaillant ecoTec plus 837', where I'm getting random F28/29 and F54 errors. It's pretty old and I'm wondering if it's worth just swapping it out. I'd like the peace of mind of a long warranty etc. The current system consists of 7 radiators...

Vaillant EcoTech Plus 837 - F28 fault when heating is triggered

Thanks, he did mention it could be the gas valve or gas supply. He checked the supply into the house and that was fine. What doesn't make sense (to me at least), is why does it always fail to start in the morning? Hot water from taps and heating in the evening appear to be fine?

Vaillant EcoTech Plus 837 - F28 fault when heating is triggered

Hoping somebody can help. I called out a heating engineer this week as my boiler has started erroring in the mornings when the heating is triggered. This has become more frequent, but so far can be remedied by pressing the reset button. When it errors, I get the F28 and a F54 error. The engineer...

Replacement E7 storage heater for a dual feed storage heater

It doesn't work anymore. Think a previous tenant killed it, no doubt by covering the vents and tripping the thermal switch. I had a look but couldn't see anyway of resetting it.

Replacement E7 storage heater for a dual feed storage heater

Hello, yes I'm the landlord. Nice to know, thanks. The consumer unit was switched out a few years back, so hopefully it's capable.

Replacement E7 storage heater for a dual feed storage heater

Hi all, I need to replace an old Dimplex storage heater, which has a single economy 7 feed. I noticed that the more modern ones have two feeds, so one for E7 and one for daytime tariff. To the best of my knowledge, the rental flat only has the single E7 flex coming out of the wall. Is it...

Immersion heater and Salamander CT55XTRA pump

Thanks Stem, some great advice there. Yes, I did wonder if the pump was running out of water but I'll be honest, I don't know how it works. I assumed the pump spinning would actually 'pull' the water from the cylinder, hence not relying on the gravity feed, but going by your description, it...

Immersion heater and Salamander CT55XTRA pump

I had a quick look today when I was there. Posted below are a couple of pics. It looks like there is a feed from the top of the water tank into the pump and then the output from the pump goes into the copper pipes which feed the hot taps around the flat. I couldn't actually find the stop cock...

Immersion heater and Salamander CT55XTRA pump

Oh really, no surprise. Next time I'm there, I will take some pics. I did wonder if it was a water flow problem. I have no idea how these things work. Would the pump pull from the tank or just pump what water is already sat at the inlet that's been fed by gravity?

Immersion heater and Salamander CT55XTRA pump

I'm sure it's out of warranty now and I'm not even sure who fitted it now, it's something my brother organised.

Immersion heater and Salamander CT55XTRA pump

Hoping somebody can help. In my rental flat, the hot water is fed from an immersion heater but the flow rate was abysmal. I had a plumber install a Salamander CT55XTRA pump several years ago to provide more pressure. It's never been great and has worked intermittently. At times, when it did...

Dimplex unidare WMS724N storage heater not working

Thanks, I'll take a look next time I'm there.

Dimplex unidare WMS724N storage heater not working

Thanks both. Yes, I assumed it was due to people drying towels even though I've told them not to. There was another heater in the same property which also wasn't working. I managed to find the mechanical trip on that one (watched a YouTube video). The one mentioned in my post might be a bit...

Dimplex unidare WMS724N storage heater not working

Hello, hoping somebody can help. I have a unidare WMS724N storage heater that's not working. An electrician I know had a quick look and couldn't see anything wrong with the supply. After a bit of reading, I've seen that it's common for thermal fuses to blow/trip. Does anyone know what the...

Smart controls for my central heating system

I've had a look at the Wiser kit and it looks pretty good. A couple of observations. They appear to be expensive compared to Salus (I'll need to buy 5 thermostats) and they don't have half of the accessories that Salus does. I liked the fact that you can add the window sensor to the Salus...

I will add it to my 'research' list

Smart controls for my central heating system

Yes, I have a Vaillant Ecotec Plus 837. Doesn't look like it supports opentherm, but will do simple on/off boiler switching. I have room stats/zones downstairs to control the UFH temp, I just need something to tell it to switch the boiler on when the UFH room stat calls for heat. I just assumed...

Smart controls for my central heating system

I stumbled across a Nest thermostat video on YouTube. I'd always steered away from these for some reason as I assumed they wouldn't work for me needing to control downstairs UFH and upstairs radiators but I think they do as they have a hot water connection. It looks like they also support...

    Spray foam underfloor insulation

Thanks everyone, one thing's for sure. This place is an absolute disaster. So, guess I'm back to having to rip out the floor at some point, insulating with PIR board and starting again. If only people could do things properly first time.

    Spray foam underfloor insulation

Bit of an update today. I lifted a couple of the floorboards under my stairs. From what I can tell from the visibility I had, there is no foam/PIR boards under the floor between the 100mm joists. I got a couple of photos from above and it looks like the hot feed from the boiler to the UFH...
