2 Doorbells connected to one Byron Transformer/Chime

I think there is more to this ...... The transformer is probably producing AC ...the battery pack will be DC. You cant just connect the output of a transformer in place of a battery even if you match the voltage. Show us a pic of the 'transformer'.

    Picture of the week!™

I hope whoever fitted that PowerLok knew that the conductor should be secured into the conductive part of the connector with two grub screws (and alot of 'welly') and didn't just push the bare end in & tighten the gland at the back. I'd be checking the other nine ends very carefully!!

    PAM Three Phase Motor

I think you may have a 4/6 pole machine - that would add up with the speeds you quote & I think the wiring would be like this:

Widow maker - Why the Caterers

I feel your pain! I spent a good number of my (younger) years on doing generation & distribution on the UK Music Festival circuit. Caterers always seemed to be the ones coming up with most...... "inventive" solutions to the power issues - anything from 16A male -males ("'cos you can't get a...

Circuit tripping causing damage to IT equiptment

How long is the HDMI? Are the PC & TV plugged into the same socket outlet/4 way or are then in different sockets? If on different sockets, are on the the same circuit?

Circuit tripping causing damage to IT equiptment

By the time the RCD trips ... the current is already flowing so the damage is done. The RCD is to help protect humans & against fire ... not to protect equipment. I think Id be looking for an open circuit CPC that is allowing a fault current to find a path via the HDMI leads outer screen.

    US Lamp

You might have another problem..... Have you checked that a UK bulb actually fits in the lampholder? American lamps are E26 & European lamps are E27. ie. the have a (slightly) bigger diameter screw thread.

Tesla 7" dual safety thermostats failing

Well no. The Eco7 & Full time tariffs CAN'T share a common neutral - since they are fed from different consume units. (I agree that they share a common neutral in the sense that there is only one supply into the building BUT after that is split to the two consumer units, E7 & normal rate, you...

Tesla 7" dual safety thermostats failing

The reason for this being at the front of my mind was that, for the first time in over 2 years, the immersion stopped working again in the early hours of Friday morning. At the bottom of this email is the log file (plot1) from the last week. The deep 'V' shaped dips are someone taking a bath ;-)...

Tesla 7" dual safety thermostats failing

I too have had issues with Tesla immersion heaters & thermostats, although in my case this is with a top mounted 27" heater & 11" stat. I have written about this in a previous thread but I cant find it at the moment. My issue was with the anti-boil over heat portion of the stat randomly...

Bungalow 'ringing' after fibre installed in street

440Hz is waaaay too low for a SMPSU. They operate in the KHz range - around 40kHz being a common switching frequency.

    Switch System

Another way would be to have a central (mega) junction box (like the good old Hartley Octopus from years gone by) at some central point (or one per floor). From here run 3C+E to each switch & to each light point. You now have many options - a neutral can be made available at each switch point &...

How's your luck with Premium Bonds?

A quick question for those with the maximum investment ... what happens to the prize money after you reach the max invested? Do you have to take it in cash or can the pot still continue to grow but only by re-investment of prize monies?

How to best fix this piece of copper pipe to connect to basin tap?

There should be a fibre washer between the tap connector & the bottom of the tap. It looks like its missing? Without it, you won't get it to seal. Easy enough to buy another washer & replace it.

RCD FCU tripped when fitted to CH, likely reasons?

I agree this would be true with a an item of equipment in isolation on the test bench..... BUT with something like Erics central heating boiler .... you cant guarantee the green & yellow wire in the supply cable to the boiler isnt also connected to the installation earth by some other means eg...

RCD FCU tripped when fitted to CH, likely reasons?

I can see were you are going with this BUT ...... While this might work as a debugging aid to something that you can put on the test bench & ensure that its has NO connections to anything else, that's so easy with the central heating. The cpc to the heating system is almost certainly connected...
