Can I build my threshold like this?

Sorry if I'm being properly dense mate, I just can't wrap my head around the detail! What do you have under the insulation? Or do you mean the insulation just goes above the cavity closer?

Can I build my threshold like this?

Cheers! We're going tiles so no drama there. I'm just a smidge confused - would you literally just put a normal cavity closet at the bottom and insulate/screed over that? Nothing underneath?

Can I build my threshold like this?

So as alluded to in my other thread, I basically didn't do anything regarding door thresholds when I built up to DPC - so below DPC is just one continuous cavity wall all the way round. I've got my oversite concrete in, and walls/roof build up and that's it for now. Obviously there is a doorway...

Do I stand a chance of fitting a UPVC or Composite door as a one man job?

As the title, really. Always assumed I'd DIY the doors and windows in my extension, but with COVID I can't really get helpers. Wondering if I stand any chance of doing it alone, or if it really is a 2 person job. Bear in mind I've never fitted a door before.

    Screed Queries (Doors/Thresholds)

Wouldn't that return have created a cold bridge or something?* Just wondering if it's worth lapping the DPM and dropping some concrete in to match the existing slab *Edit: I guess not, because it's under the DPC and under the insulation

    Screed Queries (Doors/Thresholds)

I don't have a drawing, but essentially slab is currently ~200mm lower than DPC. DPC should be finished floor level to match existing house if I was accurate - I won't quite know for sure until we open up the doorway between the two. Haven't done anything else yet, so in terms of engineer...

Are there any internal, bi-fold/cantilever doors that aren't awful?

Cheers guys. @Johnny Allround It's a new extension, and some of the detail hasn't been finalised but it's going to be VERY tight. Will try and come back to the thread when I've sat down with it and drawn up some detail

    Screed Queries (Doors/Thresholds)

Hi All, Back on it, which means lots of questions of course! Building my small extension, insulation over slab - just had BCO sign off everything so far, so need to crack on with the floor. First is a quick one - I assume normal practice is to screed before the UPVC door goes in? I've seen a...

Are there any internal, bi-fold/cantilever doors that aren't awful?

I'll be honest, I've all but ruled them out already. We're right for space, but every time I've ever been somewhere with a bi-fold type downstairs toilet door they've been utterly, truly, awful things. Cheap, nasty, often broken. My question is simple - are they all like this, or are some...

Should I do something with this damaged lintel?

Hey guys, apparently during the build of my new extension one of the lintels got damaged Now, first thing to note is that there's an identical window next to it - so I can ignore it, but I'd need to make sure the other window is the same height. It's not huge damage, but it's more noticeable...

    Amateur DIY Extension

Roof and Roofline Pics first else most of it won't make sense: https://imgur.com/a/okZQGnp What a pain in the neck that was! Had to drive an hour just to get some sample tiles. Anyway, let's talk roofing - we managed to juuust hit over 17.5 degrees pitch, which was a win in terms of tile...

    Amateur DIY Extension

Last Bits of Drainage Well, COVID really did make things tricky but hey ho. Getting roofing materials was next to impossible, so to start with I finally decided to finish the underground drainage. Nothing too exciting to report here - I put a new gully in which is for the extension downpipe and...

Slow going - my double storey extension build

If you want slow, check out of my tiny little single storey extension which has taken a year so far! Life's all about the adventure, though, eh! Edit: Sorry, didn't put two and two together, I see you've actually commented!

Be honest - nail every tile?

Concise at the point! I'm using concrete, so nailing it is! Should they need to come out at any point in future (I only ask because this is basically our forever house, not because I plan to!) is it realistically possible to do it without breaking the tiles? They seem relatively fragile

Be honest - nail every tile?

So I gather at some point over the last few years standards were updated and we're meant to nail every single tile to a roof. This seems kind of crazy to me - are people really following this? Feels like even a minor job in future could be a nightmare of broken tiles etc.

    Roofline Help

I reckon this is the answer: https://imgur.com/a/AafZrie The black bit is the continuous dry verge. That should sit nice and flat against the wall, so to achieve that I'm going to put a piece of UPVC behind it, butted up to the fascia. This was I can bring the fascia out into a small box...

    Roofline Help

Cheers 23. Would you happen to have any pics for inspiration? Yes, render is another ****ache when it comes to this side of things. I'm hopefully going to get the dry verge today, so I guess I can see how everything sits. So in my photos up there, you'd bring the uPVC out by another 5-10mm...

    Roofline Help

Hey guys - when the builder who helped me finish off the blockwork and roof woodwork was here, I didn't really know what I wanted to do with the roofline. Idiot self builder, of course! https://imgur.com/a/zrUk7jG So this is what he left me with. But, I've now settled on the following: No...

    Drainage 1930s

I thought most old houses had a shared system. Ours certainly does - the rainwater gully went to the sewer.
