An update with some good news.... After increasing the cylinder temp to around 72c I had plenty of HW for my daughter's bath this afternoon. This was after taking a quick shower myself a couple of hours before. Brilliant, thanks guys I am pretty sure we have the solution here ☺️. Just a...

Help understanding why I'm not getting enough Hot Water for a full bath

Hi everyone, First of all let me say thank you for all the replies. They have been extremely helpful in helping me understand my system and what might be going on. @JonathanM - I had not fully understood how the HW is heated via the cylinder on a thermal store. Your explanation was very...

Help understanding why I'm not getting enough Hot Water for a full bath

Hi all, I moved into a new house earlier this year, so this is the first winter. The house is approx 25 years old and has the original (system) boiler with HW cylinder (serviced each year). When we first moved in we had plenty of HW. However, since winter has come along and we have had the...

System boiler - should HW automatically come on when CH is turned on?

At the programmer. The HW LED on the programmer lights up when the CH automatically comes on via the set time or if I manually press the HEATING ADVANCE button.

System boiler - should HW automatically come on when CH is turned on?

Sorry for the delay guys, got a sick toddler which is taking up all my time. Below are the images of my system. I believe it is the original system installed with the house (about 20 years old). It has been serviced each year. Please let me know if you require any further information.

System boiler - should HW automatically come on when CH is turned on?

Hi all, I moved in to a new house earlier this summer which I believe has a system boiler (I'm used to a regular boiler in my old house). The HW is programmed to come on twice a day. This week (as I am sure a lot of people have :)) , the CH went on for the first time. I noticed that when the...

Can anything be done to improve noise or temp insulation in slot vent?

Hi all, Earlier this year I moved in to a new house. The windows in this house have the slot vents at the top of the frame that you can open and shut to allow air to flow through. We have found that even when shut, they seem to let a lot of noise through. If a neighbour is out in their...

What is the most economical way to program the hot water timer?

Hello all, I just moved in to a new house with a reasonably old CH/HW setup. I've got a roughly 20 year old (regularly serviced) boiler and a large HW cylinder. The heating control allows me to program the HW to come on/off twice a day. Initially I have programmed it to come on for a few...

Thanks for the advice. I have decided to swap the fittings rather than try and reuse the existing ones.

Best option for swapping halogen spotlights for LED

Evening all, I'm a bit behind in the world of LED lighting as before having a baby earlier this year, we didn't really use the main lights very often. However, the existing halogen spotlights are now getting a lot more use (and some of the transformers have died) so I think it's time to look...

Painting a wood cot - which products?

Hi all, I am looking for some product advice for painting a wood/varnished cot white. Ideally I really dont want to have to sand it as it will be a bit of a nightmare dealing with all those spindles! I was recommended Zinseer B.I.N primer, but after speaking to their technical department...

Will these plugs be ok to hold lamp in plasterboard ceiling?

No, it isn't unfortunately, was just screwed straight into the ceiling (no plug or anything). Do you have a link to a spring toggle so I can see what you mean please?

Will these plugs be ok to hold lamp in plasterboard ceiling?

Hi all, I am replacing a pendant lamp for a large LED ceiling lamp. It's not massively heavy, but is big and I'm just a little concerned that the plugs I have purchased will not be heavy duty enough. Will these be ok...

Thanks, I will give that a go before I resort to less subtle hammer/chisel approach ;)

How should I fix this sagging internal wooden door?

Easier said than done with these strike plates as the screws are near impossible to get any purchase on (they are probably original and have layer upon layer of gloss on). I'm sure I will get there though. Thanks for the advice

How should I fix this sagging internal wooden door?

It looks like it is the door that is quite badly warped. Maybe as much as 1cm out of square. Spoke to the wife and she says she doesnt care about the sagging, she just wants to ensure that the catch works so the cats cant get in the room. I think I will just look at extending the catch hole...

How should I fix this sagging internal wooden door?

Hi all, I have a wooden door that is sagging badly and the catch is no longer landing in the hole. I have tried to tighten the screws but it has not made any difference. I am a bit confused about what my next step is to try and get things aligned. As you can see below, the alignment is quite...

Are 15mm couplers OK as a permanent fix under floorboards?

Yeah, I think the cats would be unhappy if I insulated all the pipework!
