    sunken microbore pipes

Hi, the builder that built my house chose to bury the copper microcore central heating pipes directly into the plaster. Over the years the pipes have expanded and cracked the plaster. I'm now about to decorate the hall and would like to know how to hide these pipes properly. I've probably got...

    Lifting Sheet floor board

Ok, thanks , that's what I've done in the past. It's messy. Often nail heads aren't perfectly aligned in a straight row. Do you use a circular electric saw? If you do -you risk hitting a nail head , if you don't destroy half of the floor board getting them out in the first place . Nightmare...

    Lifting Sheet floor board

Hi, I've got to get underneath my floorboards to the joists. Problem is they are not conventional plank style floor boards , but those massive sheets. The sheets are nailed down as well. As anybody got any tips on the best way to get these up? (Apart from tediously taking out the nails and using...

    reinsulating my internal garage

Thanks for replying. So, I could fill the cavity between the current garage ceiling and bedroom floorboards with the solid insulation you mention? What about small gaps and nooks & crannies left over? Any ideas ? Also, what about the walls of the garage? I wasn't sure whether I should bother...

    reinsulating my internal garage

Hi, i have an internal garage which I believe is causing the adjacent internal rooms in the house to be cold. There is no plasterwork of any kind on the inside walls of the garage(just bare breeze block) and although there is some loose wool looking stuff in the cavity between the roof...

I think the timer is supposed to achieve temperatures I've inputted, but it doesn't work very well. Is the timer supposed...

    Buried microbore pipe

Hi, I'm about to decorate my hallway and the previous owner buried microbore in the wall , and Im convinced it's caused the plaster to crack. Anyone know the best way to sort this out? Expect it will involve burying them again but perhaps in a conduit with some kind of insulation?

Internal garage making the house cold

Hi, I have an internal garage and it's making the bedroom above freezing cold ,and I believe the internal walls that back onto the garage walls are making the house colder than it should. I imagine the regulations around insulation are a 'minefield'of bureaucracy. Any body get experience with...

    Wobbly newell

hi, I'm thinking of replacing my staircase handrail and spindles soon. The current one is 'getting on' a bit and the newell ( think that's what's it called ) is wobbbly at the top of the stairs through years of wear and tear . Any idea how this might be secured in place? ,and how I might get...

Low hot water pressure from combi boiler

thanks for the replies. I've re routed with 15mm throughout the pipe run. It's better but not great. I will insulate with that circular foam stuff as well. Does this make a lot of difference? I guess the boiler just isn't up to it. Just assumed it would be.

Low hot water pressure from combi boiler

Sorry , iVe no idea how I do that. ? Find it a bit strange that a relatively new boiler would struggle to produce a half decent flow. Any ideas ?
