Hi I am running 6mm cooker cable down the kitchen wall behind plasterboard that I am dot and dabbing to the wall. Does this require trunking? If so what do you recommend? Thanks

    Ring Main Socket behind splashback

Hi, as it's difficult to disconnect (source of cables inaccessible) would the following be acceptable? Crimping or using some other acceptable means of joining the cables (to replace the current joining strip) and then fitting a flush blanking plate before covering with a cooker splashback...

    New cooker circuit

In addition to my original post, as I don't know the rating of the cooker (tenants choice when rented out) should I use 10mm rather than 6mm? I understand the cable can be too small but could it also be too big for the cooker rating? If so are there any implications?

    New cooker circuit

Thanks for the prompt reply. The spark is registered and of course I will discuss with him first. I just wanted to make sure me doing the donkey work was ok as long as I left it all visible to the spark. Some sparks may insist on doing 100% of the job before being prepared to sign off. However...

    New cooker circuit

Hi, I have a terrace house (100+ years old). I want to install a cooker circuit (I see no sign of there ever having been one previously). I want to minimise the cost by doing the labourious bit my self. I plan to lift the boards and route the cable myself and leave all in view for a qualified...

    Worktops either side of cooker?

Hi I'm looking to rent out a house and local council have advised I need a worktop either side of the cooker. I have asked if the cooker can be put in the corner with a worktop on one side. Seems a reasonable request but they have said no! Are they being unreasonable. Surely it would be ok from...

    New Cooker Circuit Advice

Hi, I plan to rent out a house and it currently has no electric cooker circuit as all cooking was previously done by gas. I assume I would have to run a suitable strength cable (6mm?) from the consumer unit to the kitchen. This would involve running the cable in trunking to the 1st floor bedroom...

    Regular Boiler to System Boiler

Hi, I currently have a Glow worm Micron regular boiler which serves 10 rads and I want to add an additional 2 rads. I have been told that the current boiler will be unable to cope with the additional requirement and I will need to upgrade. I was thinking of killing two birds with one stone and...

Hi all, I changed the plug and the dryer is working fine I fitted a surface mount box over the metal box of the double socket, extended the ring main with chocblocks within the box to 2 single sockets and fitted a double blanking plate. All is good. Thanks for all the advice.

Overheated plug and socket used for tumble dryer

Hi, I have read other posts on similar subjects so I think I know the answer but thought i would post for comments. Yesterday the tumble dryer stopped working and would not restart. I moved the unit and found both the plug and socket had suffered heat damage (phots attached). The dryer is a...

HI John, that's correct. Just a programmer/timer with 3 on/off options. It was no big deal when the property was occupied but it's a big deal now :(

Combined central heating progtrammer and froststat?

Hi, is there such a thing? I currently have a wired programmer and no thermostat. The house will be vacant for a while and I want the heating to come on when the temperature drops. I know I could pay for a frost stat to be fitted, but could I do any of the following cheaper options?: 1. Replace...
