    RT bank accounts frozen

They haven't frozen their accounts. they've given notice to close their accounts. This right will be in their bank account contract, so all they've done is exercise a right available to them that RT agreed with them at the outset by signing the bank account contract in the first place...

    Vaillant 630 system boiler

I was worried about that too when looking at mine. I read the cylinder can have a vessel or internal bubble and the plumber confirmed the latter. Might be worth checking with your plumber though!

    Vaillant 630 system boiler

I'm not a professional plumber so sure someone will be along soon but can speak from my own experience. The cylinder could have an internal expansion 'bubble' instead of the expansion vessel. check the cylinder contemplates that. The boiler has an internal bypass I believe.

    Vaillant Boiler not warming enough

I'm not a gas engineer (or a tradesman of any sort!) but I had a similar problem to you. My installer and vaillant technical were all useless (they came out 3 times) so I had to try and figure it out on my own. Have you got a weather compensating stat? I do and found that the flow temps...

    new paint plaster

That stuff is perfect - exactly the same stuff I used recently when mist coating my house. I wouldn't worry too much about getting the quantities exactly right as it doesn't matter too much. Use a mixing paddle with a drill to mix it in. Also don't worry too much about the opacity of the...

    new paint plaster

Fran that is really poor advice. You must never use PVA to seal a wall. It will become virtually impossible to paint over - similar to when the spread overpolishes! Use a good quality matt emulsion paint (NOT vinyl matt) and water it down 70/30 paint/water. Only one mist coat is required.

    Bad skimming?

Oh and caulk around the sockets and along woodwork once dried before it's painted!

    Bad skimming?

If it was me I would ask the guy to come back and remedy the defective areas. If he doesn't (which is likely!) I would buy some easifill and some filling blades and patch the areas myself. Use masking tape on the woodwork and pull off when wet to leave a crisp edge. Easifill put on properly...

    Levelling Concrete Floor - Tape/Shuttering/Roller

Hi guys, I am about to level my rough concrete floor using the very helpful sticky but I have a couple of questions. I have built some MDF furniture in there (I know I should have levelled the floor first - d'oh!). Is it ok to tape around this to protect it or should I make some shuttering? If...

Door threshold problem - interior/exterior levels the same

Hi all, Back again for some more of your sage advice! Spotted water leaking under the back door threshold (in the middle of a full house refurb and spotting things as I go) and noticed that the interior floor and exterior step levels are the same. There is no threshold, sill or weatherbar...

White grout that stays white? Any and all options welcome!

Hi all, I'm looking for a white grout that stays white (within reason) for some floor tiles we want to have laid. I have heard about epoxy grout, but I've also heard that it's mega expensive! What is the price of epoxy grout in comparison to normal grout please? Are there any other options...

    unvented cylinder - basement

Thanks very much Simon! We have a vaillant ecotec plus 630 boiler and a fabdec excelsior 215l indirect unvented cylinder. All of the basement is underground but at the ceiling height is slightly above ground. That is where the flue is vented. Maybe you can see from the attached picture. Please...

    unvented cylinder - basement

hi guys My plumber is installing an invented cylinder/boiler in my basement and we are having an issue with how to deal with the discharge / pressure relief water. He has suggested using the pump house PH-5L-HW pump. However this over £500! Are there any cheaper alternatives out there that...

Ridge tiles - is this poor workmanship?

Long story mate. Roofer did the work but we had to do something with the dormer to the rear (which was the builders responsibility) which meant taking up some of the ridge tiles which they replaced. Replacing the ridge tiles was part of the builder's quote. Would you challenge it if it was your...

Ridge tiles - is this poor workmanship?

Hi guys, Before I have an argument with my roofer would someone with more knowledge than me mind letting me know whether the finish of the ridge tiles is poor workmanship please? I had a roofer in to do the main roof (done a good job) and someone else finished off the ridge tiles. The ridge...

Gap at bottom of wall after plastering?

Thanks guys. Is it also normal for them to leave a mess (blobs of dried plaster on floor, frames etc)? I know they're messy but not sure whether that is normal or they're being lazy and using the fact that other plasterers are messy as a justification.

Gap at bottom of wall after plastering?

hi guys, But of a novice here so just wondered if I could get some advice from someone in the know please! Is it normal to have these gaps at the bottom of a wall after plastering? I'm worried about fixing skirting and having to pack them out. Just wanted to check if it was normal before...

    Awkward door frame/architrave.... HELP!

That is an incredible response. I can't thank you enough. Unfortunately this conversion is part of a wider renovation where we have had to deal with lots of problems as they arose, and with different tradesmen. To summarise we (or should I say my fiancé!) changed the design of the conversion...

    Awkward door frame/architrave.... HELP!

Hi all, I have been an avid lurker for a while during my house renovation. This place has been an invaluable source of information so thank you very much for your contributions. I have had a door frame and door fitted but am confused about how to finish off around it. I plan to use 70mm...
