Internal door linings - fire linings

When fitting a FD30 internal door, is it only the rooms that come off the landing that need to be FD30 i.e. not bathrooms off the landing and not ensuites attached to bedrooms? I ask this in regards to a renovation project rather than a new build. Secondly, does an FD30 door require a fire...

Recommend a sliding pocket door system

Can someone recommend a pocket door system that they have actually used? Is there much difference between the different ones on the market? If the plasterboard wall the pocket door is going into, separates a kitchen and a utility room, should I be concerned about the kitchen cupboards etc...

    Outbuilding

Im thinking of building an outbuilding for cold storage. 5m by 4m, 2.5m in height with flat roof, so all under PD. Probably 6inch block build, no cavity wall. The existing area contains patio slabs, not even. Im in two minds as to whether to get someone to build an outbuilding or whether to...

    Smart Meters - Gas

No, it's a valid question otherwise I wouldnt be asking it. Laptop or phone batteries and other moderate power devices that use power seem to drain after 5-6 hours of usage. Now I know a meter wont be constantly consuming as much as power as that, which is why I am asking how motorised valves...

    Smart Meters - Gas

I'm used to disposable 10-year life smoke alarms having lithium batteries but I would not have thought that such batteries would have the life or the power to open and close valves as you describe for a pre-payment meter (assuming that people who have such meters might experience more temporary...

Is there any advantage in insulating 22mm Hep2o pipe?

Not if the bathroom in question is rarely going to be used and the amount of energy and heat loss used to circulating the water in the secondary loop is going to outweigh the benefits.

    Smart Meters - Gas

Where do smart gas meters get their power source from as conventional gas meters unlike electric meters have no power source. If it's from a battery, how long do those batteries last? If from an electrical point, what is the typical setup?

Is there any advantage in insulating 22mm Hep2o pipe?

It was yes, but I dont know many people who use the pipe lagging stuff for pipes that run inside the ceiling voids across rooms etc which is where the majority of my Hep2o pipes will be running.

Is there any advantage in insulating 22mm Hep2o pipe?

hmmmm ok. Some of the pipe will be running in the loft void near the eaves (loft area is converted) but the loft has been well insultated with 150mm of kingspan. Unfortunately they didnt put any pipe lagging where ir runs up a vertical part of the wall to get to the loft so whilst the void is...

Is there any advantage in insulating 22mm Hep2o pipe?

We have a large home and the 22mm plastic pipe that feeds various bathrooms around the house (longest length of pipe will be around 30m before it reaches the bathroom) as well similar sized pipe being used to route water to various manifolds around the house for the underfloor heating. I know...

    Solid oak window boards

Thank you. What is wrong with the word high end if indeed I do have a spacious home and high-quality finishes? I didn't realise you had a view into my home.

    Solid oak window boards

I'm trying to go for a high end finish as most of the home will be high end after we are finished. Also need something around 25mm or 28mm in thickness.

    Solid oak window boards

Someone told me to avoid solid oak window boards for all my window (we had new openings made and the depth of the sills on some of them are quite deep). I've been told to consider MDF window boards with oak veneers because solid oak does not always keep straight and flat and overtimes can warp...

Full bodied porcelain tiles v ordinary porcelain

I understand that full bodied porcelain tiles has the colour of the tile running throughout, so if there is a chip on the surface, you see the same colour underneath. If the tiles are going to be used internally on the ground floor, is there any particular reason I should choose one over the...

What thickness flooring boards should be used?

I started questioning myself when a builder friend of mine said I should have used at least 22mm boards.

What thickness flooring boards should be used?

Our joist centres are about 400mm apart. Is plywood durable for a structural floor? Are the tongue and groove boards any better?

Front door made of marine ply

Well it is a double door that will look something like one of these: http://www.shieldsecuritydoors.co.uk/images/phocagallery/front-page2/thumbs/phoca_thumb_l_0002.jpg https://www.shieldsecuritydoors.co.uk/gallery2.html So I guess its no different to any other door that will be exposed to sun...

Front door made of marine ply

I am purchasing one of secure front doors where the internal structure is made of steel. The outter covering I can choose between a marine ply finish or an MDF with a RAL colour spray coating. I'm not sure which one to go for (cost is the same for either). I like the look of the marine ply...
