    Wall Plate & Joist Advice

Ok I am getting close to fitting my joists in my build but I need some advice. I think I am going down the route of a wall plate and hangers but I could do with some tips on fitting the wall plate. Its approximately 6.5m long so two pieces of 8 X 2 should suffice. I guess coach bolts to fix...

Garage conversion and build over !

Ok so on Tuesday this week I was at my local hire shop at 8 am collecting a couple of been lifters in preparation for my steel delivery later that day. The driver text me around 9.30 and said he would be with me between 12.30 and 1.00 so I spent the next half hour rounding up a gang of friends...

Garage conversion and build over !

So I have been busy on the extension and have not updated this post for a while. It sounds stupid but every time I think I have finished ripping stuff down I find something else that I need to take down. I have been really looking forward to actually building something and not taking it down ...

    Another joist question

Well I guess his theory is that a Bath needs extra support?

    Another joist question

I get the bath needing extra support but what does he mean in regard to the stud walls ? Will this be for the stud walls that run the same direction as the joists otherwise it would mean doubling up almost everywhere?

    Another joist question

So my architect has stipulated 3 no joists under bath and stud walls. Does this terminology mean a minimum of 3 or 3 bolted together?

    Fixing Joists !

There are hangers you can get that bolt straight in to the block work and I wasn't sure which would be easier.

    Fixing Joists !

Do you opt for a wall plate as opposed to hangers straight to masonry just because the hangers are easier to level ? I am using 47 mm x 195 mm joists so I would use the same for the wall plate ?

    Fixing Joists !

I guess it would be fixed with coach bolts or similar ?

    Fixing Joists !

Morning all I am asking for some advice/experience in regard to fixing joists to existing masonry. Basically I am converting my double garage and the joists will run from the existing house wall to a steel and then from a steel to the existing garage wall. In essence both walls are existing at...

    Drilling Holes in an RSJ

During the demolition stage of my build I have managed to find and RSJ that was encased in timber. I have checked the SE and he has confirmed I can use it. This is good news as it will save me a few quid but I will need to drill some holes for M12 bolts. Am I going to need a special drill bit ...
