Running New Cable from Sky Dish

Hi Folks, I need to move the Sky satellite feed from my dish. Sky want a lot of money to do it as it's outside of a normal installation and frankly, given the absolute mess the last sky engineer made of the render on my house, I'd rather do it myself anyway. Can anyone help me out with the...

    Core drilling with clutch-less drill

But I mean like if I cut slowly and carefully can I avoid any dangerous lockups? I’ve only got one hole to drill, don’t mind if it takes all day!

    Core drilling with clutch-less drill

So I borrowed a heavy duty SDS drill off a buddy to cut a 6” core. When I went to pick up the core bit the rental chap reminded me to check that the drill had a torque safety clutch else I might ‘break my arm’. I asked my buddy and he isn’t sure. The manual for the drill says nothing of it...

Ikea retractable tap hose fitting problem - any ideas?

Because of this bin drawer! Also IKEA design o_O. Actually the problem is even worse because with the drawer in I had to reposition the waste even further back and the hose can’t even go in front of the waste now so it naturally now coils up in the top. I think the game is up, she will just...

Ikea retractable tap hose fitting problem - any ideas?

Hmm - I'll give it a shot. I fear that securing the other end will stop it being able to go up far enough to pull out fully.

Ikea retractable tap hose fitting problem - any ideas?

Not a bad idea but I gave this a shot already and was unable to find a material that was flexible enough to make the tunnel in the confined space but strong enough not to crumple/deform as the weight came back down.

Ikea retractable tap hose fitting problem - any ideas?

Hi folks. Got a slight problem with the tap I've purchased for the kitchen. The better half chose it a few weeks back and didn't mention to me the one she chose has a retractable hose. Since then I did all the plumbing and waste for the new sink and needed to keep it 'low profile' so a 1/2...

    Generator Hookup to Ring Main

Is there an established/standard method of providing a portable generator hookup to the ring-main (or CU incomer) of a domestic property? The only methods I’ve ever seen myself are cowboy ‘widow maker’ Ceeform to 13amp plug cables. I assume to do this properly would need to involve a Ceeform...

    key snapped in lock

If the key is fully engaged in the lock you should still be able to turn the cylinder (flat screw driver blade), in which case turn just remove the retaining bolt (cross head screw in the frame - can't tell exactly which one from your pictures, but it will be directly in-line with the bottom...

    uPVC Max Door Size?

Hi all, I'm trying to get a door made for my back garden door. The opening is 1150mm x 2070mm and I really want a single full-glass outward opening door to fill it. All of the online 'trade' retailers won't quote for a door this size and I've reached out to 3 suppliers directly and they all...

    Corner Tape vs Corner Bead

I've just finished a bunch of boarding around a new stud wall and got it ready for skim plastering. One of the plasterers who came to quote for it was not happy with the metal corner 'tape' I had used (this) and said he'd have to remove them and put a metal corner 'bead' in. The other didn't...

    RCD on non-earthed supply

So is the logic that 'active' RCDs use/need the earth connection?

    RCD on non-earthed supply

Ground/Earth... The RCD has L-N-E terminals on both the line and load end. It assumed the Earth was just a pass-through, but maybe it is not.

    RCD on non-earthed supply

    RCD on non-earthed supply

When it worked, after I put a regular 13A plug on it, it was connected to ground. When it wasn't working with the bayonet cap, it was floating.

    RCD on non-earthed supply

I have a string of of festoon lights across the garden powered from a non-RCD protected lighting circuit. I like to have my Bluetooth speaker down the other end of the garden when I'm working, but recently it's battery is getting a bit old and it needs to be plugged in all the time. So I built...

    Joining cable through small hole

Yes it will be tricky but not impossible - I would (after ensuring the circuit is isolated) hook the cable with something and strip the outer sheath from the cable with a knife before cutting it as you'll be able to get more purchase on it to do the stripping. Cut it, do a bit of keyhole surgery...

    levelling joists for decking

It might reduce a small amount of bounce on the boards that exactly align with the noggins. I guess the complete answer is that you don't need to install them, but if you have the time and the timber spare, there is no harm in over-engineering it :)
