External wall blockwork - has my builder made a mess?

So, if he just just reconstructs the cavity by placing new blocks, from a structural perspective, everything should be fine? I very much hope he won't charge me for this  That was there already, so at least for that, he can't be blamed. No, I was very hesitant to give the job to him for...

External wall blockwork - has my builder made a mess?

Well, yeah, I thought as much but my question is: what do I do now? He said tomorrow he will fix it but now I am concerned regarding what he'll actually do to fix it. If he just puts some blocks back and essentially goes back to the original situation, will that be sorted (not the damp part of...

External wall blockwork - has my builder made a mess?

yeah... that also. How bad is this? What do I risk here and what should I do now? He said he's going to fix this tomorrow but at this point I don't trust the situation too much. I don't want this to be fixed in a ****ty way that will come back to haunt me in a few year's time...

External wall blockwork - has my builder made a mess?

Hi, I have a builder doing some work in my bathroom. There is a wall that had a weird shape and the builder asked me if I wanted to have it flat. I told him that, if the wall was non-load bearing, then yes. If it was load bearing, absolutely not. I left him in the room and after a while he came...

Shed wiring (already connected to mains)

Before explain all this, I want to point out that two weeks ago I had an electrician carry out an EICR for "peace of mind" to make sure that everything is OK. The certificate states that the installation is in satisfactory conditions. Once C3 observation stating that the consumer unit is not up...

    Overboarding questions

So... I have decided to attempt overboarding a few of the ceilings in my house. I will start from the smallest one and see if I can actually manage it and then move to the larger ones if I consider it feasible. The joists are spaced 40cm and the ceilings are artexed. I don't know if they...

Is this Artex or textured paint?

Well that’s the thing… if it has asbestos I’d rather deal with it myself rather than having someone mindlessly scraping the high bits off and vacuuming afterwards with a regular vacuum cleaner as they usually tend to do…

Is this Artex or textured paint?

Thanks for all the replies! The thing is, it seems that underneath there's just plasterboard. If that is the case, would it not be bad to have steam soaking into it for months? Why should I not scrape it off? If it comes off by itself what's the benefit of using a steamer?

Is this Artex or textured paint?

As said in the title... Is this Artex or textured paint? It's in my bathroom's ceiling and it's starting to peel off. I was thinking about taking down as much as I can and see what I am left with. I thought it was artex but now that I see how thin it is, I'm starting to think it might ht...

    Is this asbestos?

I am investigating a dripping sound coming from under the floor and I've started to pull the laminate up. Under the laminate flooring, there appears to be this stuff. Is it asbestos or can I just carry on?

Matt over silk: how much sanding to do?

Here is the before and after sanding a tiny stretch if one wall. Should this be enough/too much/too little?

Matt over silk: how much sanding to do?

The reason for sanding was to avoid using a primer... Do I have to use it anyway? They are around 15/20£ per litre and cover around 12m2... I have the whole house to do, I'd be looking at spending hundreds in the primer alone  Is there any other alternative?

Matt over silk: how much sanding to do?

Hi all! I am looking at fixing the walls that have a few nicks and re-painting all of them. All walls are painted with vinyl silk and we want to replace it with a matt finish. I am planning to sand them, fix the odd spots with easyfill and then paint. Now... How much sanding do I actually have...
