    A shower dilemma...

How much pressure is required to not need a pump? And how do you measure it? I only ask because there are signs that there was previously some form of mixer shower feed from the hot water 22mm pipe and the mains cold water 15mm pipe. My central heating is open vented, NOT combi.

    A shower dilemma...

Based on that I will say it's likely 6mm² It's less than 15mm. From memory (it's been 3 weeks since I isolated, disconnected, and made "safe" with a 30A choc block and electrical tape) the earth is sheathed and it's multi strand as opposed to solid cores.

    A shower dilemma...

OK. Which would you recommend? Separate pump located in loft or airing cupboard... Or combined shower and pump? (Which I will get a sparky to wire up) I think I've got a 13 Amp feed in the airing cupboard, so that's a possibility?

    A shower dilemma...

    DOH - it's pi*r*r isn't it? I'm half asleep!, does it show? So just approx 2.8mm diameter (1.4mm radius) is 6mm² (pi*1.4²=6.16mm²) and approx 3.6mm diameter (1.8mm radius) is 10mm² (pi*1.8²=10.18mm²)

    A shower dilemma...

There is a ceiling mounted pull cord isolator switch in one corner of the bathroom, right by the door. I am presuming this is directly connected to the fuse at the CU on one side and the shower on the other. If I go down the route of the RCD FCU (I'll get a sparky in, but for understanding...

    A shower dilemma...

I'm posting this here as I feel it is more electrical related than plumbing. I'm half way through my bathroom refurbish - and having spoken with a knowledgeable work colleague, I'm now in a quandary about my shower. We bought the house about 6 years ago. The current shower was installed at the...

Tiling deep window recess - the saga of the £2,000 bath panel!

Thanks for the reply. I do believe it is hollow above the main window, behind the plaster. What do you mean by bonding? I know what PVA is. Once made good, should I frame it with anything before tiling? With the smaller window, the wife wants to keep the recess - but the insulation is a good...

Tiling deep window recess - the saga of the £2,000 bath panel!

Dear DIYnot. I am in the process of renovating my bathroom. We moved into the property about 6 years ago and never really liked the suite. Champagne sanitary ware and snot green tiles! Some months back, the bath panel broke, which in turn lead us to ripping out the entire room and starting...

Luxury vinyl tile over floorboards (bathroom)

I'm renovating my bathroom. I've already ordered the new bath, basin, toilet, furniture, etc... Currently the bathroom is carpeted - a pet hate of mine, but that was how it was when we moved in. I've yet to lift the carpet, but under the bath itself are floorboards. I don't want to tile for...

Query on timber sizing - and converting imperial to metric.

Because the 20cm gained in height allows me to store some extra long stuff I have. If I split level the roof I lose the the height advantage gained.

Query on timber sizing - and converting imperial to metric.

I agree butt joints are simpler, and I may go down that route come the finish, but I do like good solid joints and the half laps help with the alignment, especially as I will be doing most of this myself. The split level is because I really do need the internal height. Other than that, is it OK.

Query on timber sizing - and converting imperial to metric.

Noted - I do not plan to insulate or anything like that, it's just going to be a basic (but larger) shed. ----- I have posted my plans - to try and keep on topic, they are in the other thread... Take a look, comment (but don't kill me ;))...

    Planning a new shed

Comments and criticisms please? I have drawn up a basic plan in sketchup to try an illustrate what I am trying to achieve. To make life easy I have opted to make 2 separate frames (rather than 1 big frame), and then bolt them together. The corner posts, door frame and lintel are 75x75 and the...

Query on timber sizing - and converting imperial to metric.

Well I'm in the process of doing a sketchup of how I'm planning to build it (mainly so I can cost it out). Once done I'll post it for criticism ;)

Query on timber sizing - and converting imperial to metric.

It's currently 8x10, and I'm looking to extend over a 6x6 area to make it 8x16.

Query on timber sizing - and converting imperial to metric.

Thank you for your advice on the matter. But isn't that going to be overkill? The existing 8'x10' shed is built out of 38x38mm at 600mm centres, and having had a look at a local shed "specialists" (Stable Structures and Broomhill Garden Buildings), they are all using 47x47/47x50 and 38x63 at a...

    Planning a new shed

I am planning to replace my existing shed and intend to build rather than buy a new one. Chances are, due the cost of building (or buying for that matter) a shed of the size I am considering, this will be a long term project. My existing shed is 8'x10' with a pent roof standing at 7'2" and...

    Wood outbuildings and boundaries

Firstly, are there any maximum sizes (square area / height) before planning permission needs to be sought? Secondly, I read somewhere that if siting on a boundary, there are further height restrictions due to blocking light to a neighbour. Is this true, and does it still apply if the boundary...
