    New roof truss replacement technology

Hello I'm dabbling with the thought of trying to convert the large attic of my 1990s bungalow into living accommodation, and have come across this new technology: http://www.telebeam.co.uk/index.asp Basically, they remove the bottom three rows of tiles, lay telescopic steel beams on top...

Advice on best product to paint on wooden window frames

Hello My newish (to us) house is around 15 years old, and has wooden-framed double glazing. They were never maintained by the previous owner, and so I have had to sand them back to the wood to get rid of all the peeling stain and get back to a good, level base layer. They were very...

    Citroen clutch pedal problems

Just in case this thread is ever useful for anyone else in the future, I thought I'd add some "closure". It did indeed turn out to be a faulty adjuster on the cable. Well done John! My local garage replaced the whole cable for £72. The cable worked out at around £35, with the rest being...

    Citroen clutch pedal problems

Hello, I have a 1997 Citroen Synergie 1.9 TD. A few months ago, the clutch began to give way, with the pedal shooting into the floor when I applied pressure. I could then pull it back up by hand, and it would be fine again for a while, then the same thing would happen. I ignored it for...

Replacing ceiling rose in artex ceiling

Thanks for the reply. Ans what about the removal of the existing rose from the artex? Have you done that before, and do you have any tips? I have visions of ruining the whole thing and having to get the whole ceiling re-plastered (although at least then I could get rid of the bloody artex).

Replacing ceiling rose in artex ceiling

Hello I need to replace my existing ceiling rose, as it's an affront to decency. You should hopefully be able to see it at the bottom of this page, because I have just sold the light fitting...

    Can vertical blinds be dyed?

Thanks for the replies. The blinds are being replaced anyway, so there isn't too much at stake. However, if there is little chance of success, you have saved me the hassle of wasting time and no doubt creating a lot of mess. Cheers.

    Can vertical blinds be dyed?

We have just decorated the living room and need to replace the existing vertical blinds as they are now the wrong colour. However, they are relatively new and are in perfect condition. I'm wondering, therefore, if it is possible to dye such things. They have a very subtle blue tint to...

    Clutch, gearbox.......or even worse?

I have a Citroen Synergie 1.9 turbo diesel people carrier (stop laughing at the back!). Two weeks ago, the gear change became incredibly notchy, and got to the point where I had to physically force the stick into gear. It was especially bad in 1st and 2nd, but seemed to change. Sometimes 3...

Mate, you're a star. I knew what I needed, but couldn't think what they'd be called. "Stop ends" --- that makes perfect sense. Cheers.

Radiators off --- need quick answer please!!!

I have drained my central heating system to remove two radiators in the lvingroom to decorate behind them. We had to drain the system as we couldn't get the thermostatic sides to shut off completely. Now that the system is drained and the radiators are off, I would like to take a couple of...

Hows this for good value ,can you beat it ?

You're brave. I'd be very concerned that the second attempt, and almost certainly the third, would come with some "added ingredients". I just look for my money back these days. It's not worth risking some minimum wage student emptying the contents of his nose into your food.

Best tough flooring options for a garage/utility area

The comfortflooring link I posted earlier actually states: "Preparation: Surface must be clean and dry ... A brush finish is ideal to provide a key for the screed." I suppose the only issue is ensuring you have enough resin to bring it up to a level above the highest ridge of concrete floor.

I've always fancied the look of the epoxy resins you get. http://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/garagefloors.htm

    George Galloway

Jasy, you're talking rot. Galloway told British soldiers to stop fighting, because he said they were fighting in an illegal war which would, at least theoretically, leave them open to criminal prosecution. And guess what? He was right. It WAS illegal. It's a perverse world where someone...

Seacat (big boat, not a tiger shark!)

Used Seacat on countless occasions on the Irish Sea and never had any complaints. Sit in the middle of the craft, because it obviously rocks less than the seats right out at the windows. I find Seacat far less vomit-inducing than a standard ferry.

    re-designing entire house

Manav, I think you should count to 10 first. Honestly, I'm getting tired just reading your plans. I would worry that you are going to take on a hundred jobs at once, live in a bombsite for god knows how long, and possibly come out the other side disappointed with the result because you...
