    Woodburner Draw

5" liner. Approx 9m height of twin wall flue. I wonder if it's worth getting hold of an inspection camera, if it's possible to get one with cable that length...

    Woodburner Draw

The baffle plate was never supplied with the stove when we bought it, but is available as a separate item (for a very small King's ransom). We've used a "Chimney Typhoon" system (neon coloured brush) to sweep. Seems to be a good product, but perhaps a smaller brush is required near the top of...

    Woodburner Draw

Thanks to all for the replies and suggestions, much appreciated. To clarify, there are no extractor fans in the room. Nothing has changed and the burner has been operating perfectly for the last ten years. There is no actual baffle in the Charnwood (never had one). We also have a Morso...

    Woodburner Draw

Good point. Luckily there is a sweeping hatch, so yes - I can verify that the connection is good.

    Woodburner Draw

Thanks Nige, however this is a constant problem and the smoke being pushed out into the room is so bad that we can't even use the burner anymore. It doesn't seem to matter what the weather conditions are outside. No changes in trees outside.

    Woodburner Draw

Thanks Bernard Nothing has changed in the room itself, and you'd think that sweeping the flue would have at least improved things, but no difference. There is a bird cowl on top of the pot, so can't be an issue with anything having got into the flue and blocked it, but that's what I perceive...

    Woodburner Draw

Posting this here as there doesn't seem to be a category for stoves and chimneys. We have a Charnwood Country 4 woodburner connected to a flexible liner, installed by a HETAS chap a few years back. Always worked perfectly. Until recently, when we noticed that it's not drawing like it used to...

Replacing Mira shower cartridge hasn't solved temperature problem

We have a combi-fed Mira Excel shower, which has developed a temperature problem. Used to run hot, but now only runs a touch above luke warm. Here are the symptoms- Turning the temperature control on the shower fully to the left (hot) results in a brief moment of full hot water before then...

What Heating Controls do I need for a 3 zone system (UFH plus Radiators)?

As part of a renovation, our plumber installed UFH in the main ground floor areas, as we were having new floors laid. Rads were installed in the rest of the house. The UFH is in two separate zones (separate flow monitors for each). Therefore, a 3 zone system in total. The plumber left us with...

    Doorframe Gap

One the one side, the plasterer has boarded and skimmed right up to the woodwork, so that's going to be a PITA to remove without causing a right mess.

    Doorframe Gap

Our carpenter put a doorframe in an existing aperture, but only the same width as the single skin brickwork. The walls were then subsequently dot-n-dab'd by a plasterer, and skimmed. The plasterer said that the doorframe needs to be replaced with the correct width timber? Is he correct? I...

Can flooring be laid straight onto concrete slab?

The original floors were in a poor state, and we were advised to replace them to modern specs with insulation etc, and since a new heating system was required, the opportunity was taken to install UFH at the same time. The job was done in two stages, and by two different tradesmen. The level was...

Can flooring be laid straight onto concrete slab?

    Correct, no screed.

Can flooring be laid straight onto concrete slab?

We've had to replace all the floors in our house, as part of a renovation. They have been constructed using 100mm insulation and there is UFH laid within new concrete slabs. However, there is no top screed, just the concrete slab itself on which to lay the final flooring. My concern is that the...

Tiling Bathroom Floor - How to secure Tilemaster cement boards?

Hi all We are laying 6mm Tilemaster cement boards over floorboards, and just wanted to know which is the best or most commonly used method of installing these? - A layer of rapid flex tile adhesive, then screw the boards into the flooboards using 25mm screws - Use 'green grip' adhesive on the...

How can I create this cabinetry for hiding boiler?

Brilliant, thanks for taking the time to reply gents. I just found a local supplier, who can sell me a 19mm 2400 x 1220 sheet of walnut veneer for about £60. Although they can't provide a cutting or edging service. I'm inspired by what I've seen, and what is possible creatively.

How can I create this cabinetry for hiding boiler?

I've come across the following, and would like to know how this is achieved/constructed? It appears to be one single piece of walnut grained wood, or similar, from which the various doors/panels have been mapped out and cut. I don't need to go to this extreme, but would like to build something...

Terrible Pointing - Can This Be Fixed?

Currently trying to figure out what to do with the brickwork underneath an old bay front window. It's in a right state, as you can see in the photos. Someone has attempted to do some patchy repointing previously, obviously using the wrong mix and concrete all over the brickwork. My question...

What to do with fireplaces now that we have underfloor heating?

Hi Pete thanks for your response, why would UFH be rubbish? Interested to know your experience. So far, it seems pretty good but haven't yet put down the final flooring finish, so we'll see.. Thanks all for the replies, now thinking that maybe a woodburner would be good as an alternative heat...

What to do with fireplaces now that we have underfloor heating?

Wasn't sure where to post this. We are in the midst of a full back-to-bricks renovation project. Our heating engineer convinced us that UFH was the way to go, since we had to dig up and replace the existing floors anyway. The original fireplaces also had to come out, to allow some brickwork...
