    Cavity wall boxes

I'm going to be placing a few sockets on a wall that has been dot'n'dabbed. The distance from the face of the plasterboard and the original wall will be around 25mm (12.5mm cavity for cables/pipework then 12.5mm plasterboard). However all the cavity boxes I've seen are 35mm deep, meaning...

    piggy-backing the master phone socket?

Thing is, its on a wall that I’m going to be plaster boarding to create a cavity, so I’ll have to remove it for this and then when I put it back it’ll be in a plasterboard cavity box. If I leave it as the standard surface mount box it will look odd as everything else in the room with have...

so is it ok to piggyback the connections on the master socket to run an extension to another socket? I could always say that the master socket was flush mounted with a chrome wall plate when I moved in..?

    piggy-backing the master phone socket?

thanks guys. However, I want to flush mount the box and use a chrome type wall plate so it matches all the other sockets in the room. If I do this then any engineer from Telewest would know that I played around with it wouldn't they? When I moved in the original owners had a telewest line...

    piggy-backing the master phone socket?

I want to run a telelphone cable upstairs vias the inside wall which I'll be dot'n'dabbing in the near future thus hiding the telephone cable (as well as other stuff too). Firstly I need to move the Telewest socket over to the other side of the window. Can I simply remove the wires, move...

    How does this work?

I have a vented gravity system with a shower pump used to send the water to the show and bath taps in the bathroom. When the pump starts to pump , is its flow/pressure rate limited to how quickly the tank can fill with cold water from the cold water tank in the loft? Or does it effectively...

    Hansgrohe shower pump

I have a hansgrohe shower pump fitted in the house I've recently moved into. Whilst the cold water pressure/flow is excellent, the hot water pressure is awful and sometimes gets so low that you'd think the pump was switched off. Its also very noisy too - I'm sure it should be as loud as it...

    'controllable' radiator in the conservatory

will that make any difference if the conservatory is the coldest room and its all run off the same system? The stat will have already shut the boiler down long before the TRV gets to the same temp as the rest of the house wouldn't it..? Even if I set the room stat to 20C and the TRV to 25C...

    'controllable' radiator in the conservatory

I'd like to run a spur off our central heating to add a radiator in the conservatory. As the doors seperating the conservatory will be left open most of the time, i'd like to heat it alongside the living room rather than leaving the 2 rads in the living room to heat the conservatory too...

    cable in cavity space

Any particular reason why not? I assume this would also apply to central heating pipework being run the same way? Seeing as my house has this throughout the ground floor rooms am I expected to go round and make good? Or simply play dumb?

running pipes in cavity space between brick courses?

I need to get microbore from the first floor void into the room below. Currently this is run through trunking that has been stuck to the wall and looks awful. Is it possible to run the microbore through the cavity space in the wall and bring it back through into the room at the bottom of...

    cavity space thickness

Whats the average cavity space thickness in house walls? I currently have electrical wiring running from the first floor void into power sockets downstairs, all running through the cavity and entering again at the bottom to make the connection. Does anyone know how wide this cavity space is...

whats the best way to hide pipes

I have drop feed microbore into my living room and want to hide the pipes to give an uncluttered look. They are currently boxed in with trunking which looks awful, and hence I dont want to do this again after I've re-decorated. Whats the best way to sink them into the walls?

dot-n-dab to create a cavity wall

would I have to ensure that the raw plug gets pushsed in all the way to the edge of where the original wall is - I dont want only half the rawplug sitting in the original wall with the other half sitting out in the cavity. And the wall the adhesive will be applied to is painted with emulsion...

    New window sill

I want to replace a wooden window sill in my living room as were having the original wall increased in depth by around 1” by adding plasterboard. Therefore the original window sill will probably sit level with the wall now and I’d like to extend it forwards again to regain the space I will...

dot-n-dab to create a cavity wall

I’ve got microbore central heating in my house which is also drop feed into my living room, kitchen etc. I’m starting to decorate the living room and had a plasterer come round to see about skimming the walls and ceiling. My original plan was to chase the walls to hide the drop feed microbore...
