Hi, I want to build a small brick BBQ in the back garden. My questions is does it need to have foundations? It will be built on top of block paving. Any help much appreciated. Chris

Wood and carpet in the same room.

Thanks guys. It's actually thin ply which is screwed onto floor boards. This ply brings it up to be exactly level with a small square of concrete which is at the bottom of the stairs. Where can I get this solid oak ramp from? Cheers, Chris

Wood and carpet in the same room.

We have a small terraced house (2 up 2 down) and the front door opens straight into the front room. As a result the carpet gets very dirty. A friend of mine has a load of real wood flooring left over from an old job which he will give to me free of charge. I want to put this flooring...

    Corrugated metal garage roof leaking

Ever since we moved in to our house a few years ago the garage roof has leaked in several places. It is a metal framed garage with corrugated metal roof. The roof looks to be in good shape, no rust etc so I don't really want to replace it. I think the water is coming in where one piece of...

    Making hole for extractor fan

Sorry, not from me. I got a cover with the extractor fan that I bought and put that on it. Plus it was a downstairs loo so it was easy job (no ladders involved).

Your quite right Spark123. Perhaps an Iron wasn't the best example!

    PAT testing for dummies...

Flash testing is considered a 'destructive test'. It should not be performed on a piece of equipment under normal circumstances. If a manufacturer creates a new product then 1 will be flash tested and if it passes then it is expected that all the others will. Simply because an item has been...

    Painting chipboard

I want to build a small desk for my son and the cheapest, strongest wood I could find in B & Q was chipboard. Can I paint this? What should I paint it with? Any help would be much appreciated. Chris

Vague question about cost of heating.

Here is a very vague question for you... How much does it cost for me to run my heating all day? Or per hour? I just want a ball park figure, i.e. £10, £100 or 10p? We have a brand new Valliant EcoTech boiler and the house is a mid terrace, 3bed with mostly old double glazing. I...

Rad needs bleeding once a week

We've had a conventional system with tanks in the loft converted to pressurized system with a valliant combi boiler. When this was put in we got the guy to put a rad in the loft room. This rad is the highest in the house and is at the end of the pipe work run. It needs bleeding about once a...

    Draining system with EcoTech boiler

Thats brilliant, thanks Gas4You. I've read the manual but its not great. I'll follow your instructions! In the manual I understand everything except... 'Bleed the heating pump by loosening the central screw' and 'loosen the cap of the pump AAV' Neither of these have pictures or any...

    Why so cheap?

Here it is... http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav/nav.jsp?action=detail&fh_secondid=9270747&fh_view_size=6&fh_location=%2f%2fcatalog01%2fen_GB&fh_search=polyplumb+pb1&fh_eds=%C3%9F&fh_refview=search&ts=1229502719734&isSearch=true I've looked it up and it is OK to use on central heating. I...

    Why so cheap?

I just bought some of the grey poly plumb pipe (15mm) from the big orange shop. It cost £3.48 for 3m which was quite a bit cheaper than the white stuff that they sell. Why is it so much cheaper and will it be OK for putting my new radiator in? I couldn't find any staff to ask if it was OK...

    Draining system with EcoTech boiler

We have a brand new Valliant EcoTech boiler and I'm going to add a rad for the downstairs Loo. I know there is a section dedicated to draining a system but I just want to double check (I'd hate to knacker my new boiler!). To drain system do I simply turn the boiler off and drain at lowest...
