Hi Emma As you live North of the border I guess we can see sarking sheets of ply rather than the more traditional tongue and groove planks. For sure, I’d leave things well alone as the roof shell will be very strong and ply can warp under it’s own weight. Regards! John

I don't know if this particular machine has a fuel tap or not, but when you remove the float bowl you'll see the plastic float inside. Raising this with your finger shuts off the fuel flow, which will start again when the float drops. John :)

The choke flap is the one on the right of the picture. It may be automatically operated, but the flap must close completely to get a cold start. Of course, there may be a blockage within - in which case its float bowl off (carb removed) using the central bolt, followed by the main jet and...

In which case there will be some sort of choke mechanism. Often the carb has two flaps in it, operated by rods. One nearest the engine is the throttle, the other nearest the air cleaner is the choke. John :)

Before you dive in......what sort of choke does the machine have - is it via a primer bulb or a lever on top of the carb? A photo of the carb would really help if you can. John :)

There should be a rewind direction arrow somewhere on the spool; Always use the correct diameter line; Don't wind too much line on the spool; When using the line auto feed, bump the head on soft ground after giving the machine a rev and then letting it slow a bit. John :)

Blackened Allen screws are often very hard. If it was mine, I’d try hammering an Imperial key slightly oversize in, but failing that I’d grind some flats very carefully and use an adjustable spanner to shift it. John.

Make sure the belt from engine to the gearbox is intact and correctly routed, so when it is tensioned by the clutch pedal the drive takes place and the gearbox pulley spins. Post back if this happens and we’ll take it from there. John

If the engine will spin it's ready to go . Try taking the plug out and spinning the engine over ( is the plug wet?) and trying again using full choke. Ensure the choke butterfly closes fully! John

I think maybe you could come up with some method of at least, using the machine........the ATCO equivalent switch has gone AWOL too. You would lose some overload protection and the reversing facility though. John :)

For pock marks, read tiny scratches! I use etching primer on any metal, in my case 99% steel and it hasn't let me down at all.......where ordinary primer has. John :)
