    Thank you for all your replies. That is what i was looking for, if i had known i would have swapped any boxes that were to be lost under the floor as they were found, with the maintenance free ones to be 'to regulation'.

    answered my own question, the surface box i used in my house has an earth terminal but is it does nothing other than fix the earth wire!

    Thank you. I still think dirverter because of the nature of how the divertor works of course. In the same way a 3 way motorized value on central heating goes wrong. I will pass this on the the guy i mentioned. No problem if it was bosch as he has a van full of spares!
