    Equipotential Bonding of Central Heating

Hi, In our new extension the central heating supply pipes are plastic, yet at the floor level they become copper for the short distance up to the new radiators (obviously also metal). Does this small amount of pipework need to be bonded, or is this not required? The house has been...

There is no magic formula! You need to consider local ground conditions.

    Cooker "Two Foot" Rule

Sounds like this is the same thing. Very annoying that no-one can find a reg though - would have thought that this was a day to day issue?!

    Cooker "Two Foot" Rule

Hi, Could someone please clarify for me, and back it up with a BS reference, the "two foot" rules for cookers - I have been told that I cannot place the gas cooker in a new kitchen any less than two feet away from a window, due to health and safety law. Could someone please confirm this...

    HAIR LINE CRACKS IN BRICKS

How old is the property? If the crack has appeared in the brickwork more than 10 years post construction, then it is very unlikely to be Settlement (Effectively the house sinking into the ground on which it is bearing). I would think that subsidence is a much more likely cause. You really...

    Supporting a bank

Do I detect a slight level of sarcasm in that comment... However, it sounds like a retaining wall is needed. 2.5m is not insignificant.

    Supporting a bank

Who said a slope can't be steeper than 45deg? I have to say that a picture really would tell 1000 words here. Needless to say, you will need to do some sort of slope stability analysis, and it will probably be best to speak to a qualified structural/geotechnical engineer. What is the soil...

Lots of hairline cracks showing up in the ceiling...

Indeed, definately sounds like plasterboard if the cracks are straight and regular. As shown in one of my engineering lectures, if this is what I am thinking then it is most probably nothing to worry about.

    Dishwasher Waste Connection

Hi, Hopefully a simple one, but I just want to check before we go ahead. We have just acquired a dishwasher, and note that there is no standpipe for it separate to the one for the washing machine. However, we have spotted an interesting trap under the sink, which is probably to get a...

    Consumer Unit question....

Oh quite. I thought it would be fine. Just wanted to check that by "lid" it was the lid of the CU and not the fuse cover that was being talked about.

    Consumer Unit question....

Right at the top of this thread someone said this: Does the lid need to fit on again afterwards as a legal requirement in the wiring regs or is this just "preferable"? The house I am in at uni has had one of the cartridge fuses changed for an MCB, and hence the lid does not fit on. The lid...

    3 Questions

Just to clarify, I do not rent out the properties and both are in the family. We own property 1, and currently live in #2, which is owned by another family member who currently lives in #1. Yes...its complicated! Anyhow we have reason to keep #2 uptogether whilst we deal with #1 - our future...

    3 Questions

There is nothing wrong with the light shaver point other than I wondered if it was too close to a wooden cupboard and might be a fire hazard. Also the one at House 2 has conveniently broken (the pull cord switch has gone), so I planned to install the light one there, and put the new '2 socket'...

    3 Questions

Hi, Sorry if these have been mentioned before, I did try a search but it was a bit unsucessful! 1) In House 1, I have just had a rewire (about 2 months back) as it needed doing. However I have just noticed that the new consumer unit (wylex) has a small 'nick' in it. It is on the corner...
