    Cutting Central roof Binder

Hi, I need to move a loft hatch and there are 3 binders running across the rafters. The centre binder I need to cut in order to form a new loft hatch. What would the correct way of doing this be? Note that the central binder also has 3 vertical "king rods"? attached connecting the centre...

    LED Strip Lights

Hi, I am hoping there is an answer for what seems like a simple questions, yet my sparky was not sure. I wish to put various strip LED's under the pelmets of windows etc. however I need the drivers to be concealed yet accessible fro any future maintenance etc. The question is, is there a...

Garage Concrete floor crack 12 hours after pour.

I suspect it will be too dry to do anything about the surface now. But will cover it as suggested. The builders are proper shoddy and just want them finished and gone now!

Garage Concrete floor crack 12 hours after pour.

Swirl marks are more prominent because it's not dry yet. I'm not worried about those, it's a garage. My main concern is to whether the cracks are an issue 12 hours after pour and what, if anything, can be done with them.

Garage Concrete floor crack 12 hours after pour.

I'm going demented with this build, never again. Garage floor was not level so builder dug out a section to relay and make level, so that the garage door would sit flush. That was poured at about 12 pm yesterday afternoon. Steel mesh was inserted also and it's about 150 deep slab. I have...

    Hybrid

Thanks both, for the comments. I have been reviewing both systems and from what I can tell the Texecom seems like a "better" system. It feels more thought out and quality than the Pyronics. Also the app seems a bit more professional? Of course, I have not seen them in real life so cant...

    Hybrid

Hi, Looking to wire in an alarm system in me house being built. It's 5 bedrooms, 2 living spaces, utility, hall and double garage (2 garage doors). Looking through various threads it would seem the Euro 46 or the Premier 48 would give me the option of mostly hard wired but with the option of...

Confused over electrical cable length and size

I was also under the impression that rings were better due to load balance etc. and that radial were less common/preferred in the UK?

Confused over electrical cable length and size

Thanks for the explanation guys, that's solved the confusion I had on the cable length. Flameport, I'm now a bit confused at your second post (forgive me)... As I understand it there would typically be 2 rings for the sockets in a domestic, one for upstairs and one for down. The reason I say...

Confused over electrical cable length and size

Hi, I've been reading up on ring circuits for domestic installations and typically it is stated that 2.5mm t&e is used. However on learning how to calculate this properly with voltage drops and cable length etc. It's coming out at 4mm for me. I assume the cable length is the total length of...

Door and window frame around porch wall - movement

There are wall ties and insulation. Yes it's block outer as it's going to be rendered. I guess I'm best getting the builder to rebuild the order leaf in brick then?

Door and window frame around porch wall - movement

Ouch, was hoping for something a little less disturbing. Isn't there a solution other than that? There seem to be loads of porches the same.

    Cracks in slab

"I can't believe that the designer has specified such a slab and building control approved it. I would expect a good builder to have queried this too." Tbh, the architect, builder and building control have all been pretty poor with me having to question and chase constantly.

Door and window frame around porch wall - movement

Hi all, I have a question I wonder if anyone can assist with. I have had a door fitted as part of a build I am having done, however on closing the door there is movement in the outer leaf of the block wall, to which the door frame is fixed. It is clear to see that the mortar has cracked. My...

    Cracks in slab

Hi guys, I'm currently having an extension built and the concrete slab has been down about 6 weeks now. I've only just noticed a few cracks and wanted to check with some of the experts if they felt they were normal or not. Slab in the back room is approx 12.5 X 5.7m and should be 150mm deep...
