Sorry another quickie - got a toilet leaking water into pan slowly but continous - it's a push button cistern - can I put a new valve in (Wirquin one looks ok) - as not sure what original valve is....? Think it's 1 1/2" outlet but will wirquin drop valve be ok ?

yeah I have MI but we all know certain boiler's have common faults and MI don't show them! or mention them!

Hi all is there any guide/booklet you can buy that indicates common faults on particular boilers? For example, common faults on Potterton Surpimas, etc etc?

when the boiler goes cold does the flame go out and then when left running does it go hot again? (flame lights again)?

could be DHW plate heat ex mucked - DHW thermistor, gas settings incorrect, flow rate incorrect or divert valve letting by (proved ok by OP though) could also be DHw flow switch sticking

well people annoy me ! why not just call a plumber out to do the job in first place!

could be taking a while to drain the cold in the pipe before the hot comes through - could also be other things!

sounds like non power to boiler in CH mode - need to check with a multimeter! whatis CH set to on boiler as well (has it been adjusted)?

have you got automaric air vents anywhere in your system?

sound like an airlock - all that water is wasted why didn't you bung the system? have you got no gate valve on your cold distribution pipe?

what a load of rubbish sounds like either a) system sludged up/needs a clean b) pump is on way out or possibly pump valves furred up or c) gas pressures/gas rate incorrect (RGI jobs) if fan is at fault - test resistance of coil and free running of fan (gently) motorised valves - can...

it is not good to fire a boiler with the casing removed

just a quickie - can a faulty pcb cause the hot water to run cold and still allow the heating to work ok? if so, how? :oops:

Hi On a gas valve (in a boiler) the older type had standard, diaphragm type (possibly could be range-rated) - but a lot of newer ones have modulating gas valves - where more or less current to the modulating solenoid opens/closes the gas valve more or less, as required.... basic question...

kev - what do you mean "dow corning"?!!! chrisR - I have used loctite tape before worked ok - do you mean use it on te doughnut or on the wingnut? what do you mean when you say "backed off" - sorry fi I sound dumb today :)
