    Binoculars..

I have pair of Swift 8 x 40 bins., bought 1981 for about £30 new, still in one piece, good to use, and I would presume their newer and higher-spec. range must be much better. For my 'anorak pocket', I have 12 x 32 pair from discount store Aldi, cost £5.99, impressive for the price, but not good...

    Windows XP taskbar.

cumbriahandyman, thanks for swift reply. The taskbar is not locked, no tick next to it. I can increase the depth of it, but not diminish it to its original size of one icon deep.

    Windows XP taskbar.

For some reason, my taskbar has changed to two icons deep, rather than just one. I have tried to left-click and drag top edge with the double-arrow, to reduce depth, but this does not work. I am puzzled why it does not work, I thought this was the correct procedure, it was for Windows ME when I...

    Virgin media TV

I am having to 'go digital' soon. I have a choice, of either a satellite dish and box set-up, or Virgin media, as their cables run past my house. I have no experience of either system, but I do realise the dish set-up would be my own, with no ongoing rental. I do not watch that much TV, so would...

    Internet Explorer 9

KingboyD, thanks for reply. I downloaded Firefox 4 earlier, it does seem quick. However, the favourites remind me of what IE used to be like, that is, in columns across the screen as folders open, rather than opening in one column like IE7 does. Perhaps there is a way of changing this, I...

    Internet Explorer 9

joinerjohn, I have tried Chrome, but find the layout of 'favourites' somewhat confusing. Seems bit of a muddle compared to IE7, but I shall have a further look at it. Thankyou for your reply.

    Internet Explorer 9

dave.m, thanks for your reply, most useful. I think, I shall stick with IE7, and wait until I change to Windows 7 before updating web-browser.

    Internet Explorer 9

I am on Windows XP with IE7 at present. does anyone know, am I likely to get any benefit from upgrading to IE9? Is it better or quicker than IE7? Or should Iupgrade to IE8? I am having difficulty finding any advice or information on the web. Any advice much appreciated, thank you

    Vectra aerial

On my 1999 Vectra hatchback, the radio reception seems to be getting progressively worse over the past few months. Is there likely to be any way of rectifying this, or is it likely to be a problem with a connection which is not accessible? In addition, do these cars have an aerial 'amplifier'...

Washing Machine - dirty detergent container

On my Bosch washine machine, the detergent drawer is line with black slime, also the door seal is dirty. Is there a 'usual' way of cleaning machines when they get like this? I was told, the slime may be due to using bio-detergents, but dont know why this should happen. Any advice...

    Glowworm CF60 boiler

twgas, thanks for reply. I had it serviced, cleaned and flue check a month ago by RGI, but since then I feel that the burner is not shutting-off when hot. I think I shall try to source a replacement thermostat, then see the RGI to fit it.

    Glowworm CF60 boiler

On this boiler, if the boiler thermostat fails, will the boiler still work, maybe with possible overheating, or will the burners fail to light at all? Any advice much appreciated, thank you.

    Vectra front wipers.

Thanks for the replies, the Vauxhall Owners link looks most useful. If I cannot find a good wiper motor at local breakers this week, I shall try this.

    Vectra front wipers.

On my 1999 Vectra, the front wipers no longer park themselves. Have been told it needs a new wiper motor, about £190 for part. Is this fault likely to be any other reason - for example, dirt in the motor - and is this job very difficult? I was thinking of doing it myself. Any advice much...

1950's basic and bath taps dripping..

On taps of this age, it may be that the seat where the washer goes onto needs re-cutting. Examine closely with a small torch for pitting, etc.. I have done this on a pair of old bath taps, worked OK.

    Glowworm Hideaway boiler

AlanE, yes I did think of that, but didnt know if it was acceptable. This would mean pressurised system, with no header tank, I presume. Do I understand, that conventional, vented-system floor-standing boilers with chimney flue are not acceptable under current regs? Although fitter didnt...

Fixing a new close coupled toilet

On a slightly different matter here, is the syphon a 'two-part' type? This means, when the thin plastic washer fails in the bit that lifts on flushing, it can be replaced without dismantling cistern from pan, etc. My B & Q syphon was one-piece, so fitted two-piece instead. I cannot recall the...

    Glowworm Hideaway boiler

Hello again, does nobody have any advice they could offer me here please? I would not think that I can be unique in having this problem! As earlier, any advice would be much appreciated, thank you.
