    Boiler size confusion...

Thanks for all the quick replies! I have measured the cold flow and it took 6.5 seconds to fill a litre, so just under 10l/min. I might be able to eek slightly more out of that because I have turned the external stopcock down by a turn to try and reduce water hammer. I have a couple of family...

    Boiler size confusion...

Hi I'm in the market for a new combi. We've not long moved in the house, and it has a old worcester 28i, which is working fine and provides scalding hot water albeit at a fairly slow flow rate (or it seems it anyway, but I have measured it and is running at approx 10l/min). I would keep it...

    Draghty joists

I'm doing a major overhaul of my living room at the moment and I've noticed some shoddy work that's been done in the past. Most of it is sorted now, but there are a couple of joists that are loose at the point the go into the wall (outer wall) and there is a small amount of damp around them...

    Can I use joist hangers?

I've had my floor boards up and noticed that the ends of 2 of the joists have started to rot and sag. There is a horizontal joist about 750mm from the wall that is currently supporting the lateral joists (if that makes sense?) so my question is, can I span this short gap with new joist and hang...

    Leaky Worcester

By 'both' I presume you mean the flow and return valves? (excuse my ignorance!) Excellent link though, thanks very much for the help :!:

    Leaky Worcester

I've not touched it for about 18 months when it was shut off to do a repair on the boiler, so it seems a bit odd. I've just tried wiggling it and it made it slightly worse lol It's not major at the moment so i'll just keep my eye on it for now. Just for reference, are these a worcester...

    Leaky Worcester

My boiler has developed a leak! (Worcester 24 CDi) and I've traced it to an isolation valve on the CH flow pipe. It goes through the back of the boiler so i'm not sure if it's an integral part of the boiler, or whether I could just replace it? It's leaking through the screw on the valve so...

    RAC Pressure Washer

Forgive me if this is in the wrong section. I've just bought this from argos http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/7402601/Trail/C%24cip%3D1500011159.Garden%2C%2BDIY%2Band%2Bleisure%3EC%24cip%3D1500011294.Pressure%2Bwashers.htm 10 minutes after starting it this morning, the...

    Lead Flashing

We have a leak on the kitchen roof (pitched roof single storey extension on a 2 bed terraced) and on closer inspection it seems to be coming through the lead flashing around the soil pipe. I've checked the outside and it looks like the flashing is cracked in a couple of places. Would it be...

    Focus heater control

Hi I've just bought a 52 plate Focus Diesel (if that makes a difference!) and the heater control only works on speed 4 which annoys the hell out of me!! Just wondered if it was a common problem with an easy fix, or whether it needs some new parts? Cheers

    Advice please?!

Hi I want to become a joiner and would like some general advice on how to go about it. I'm not after any quick fixes, so i'm thinking of enrolling on an NVQ at Stockport College (if there are any places!!). A good mate of mine is a Joiner and advised me to go full time at college as it...

    Cutting slabs of slate

I realised that my £25 tile cutter had a diamond coated disc on it. Whipped that onto the grinder and it went through the slate like a hot knife through butter 8)

    Cutting slabs of slate

I'm building a step outside the back door and i've bought some slate to top it off. It's from B&Q and called 'natural quarry green slate' and is about 1" thick. I need to cut about 1" off the last slab. I was thinking of cutting a groove into it with a grinder, then breaking it with a...

hi, removing the chimney brest upto the loft in a mid terris

I don't think you should even think about starting a job like that without informing the housing association, or at least the building control office. After all, it is their house

    worn nut tool??

How big is the head of the bolt? it may be possible to get some small pipe grips onto it. That has worked for me a few times, or maybe try getting an allan key that is 1 or 2 sizes too big and hammer it in

    Re-roofing kitchen extension

Sorry for the confusion. The roof has slates, see pic. I've tried to get as much as the roof as possible. Ours is on the right as you look at the pic, and if you look at the top left there should be 2 white lines where the join has been marked
