Question about cooker ignition microswitch specification

My 20+ year old Britannia cooker needs a new ignition button and as none of the suppliers who claim to have them on the Internet respond, I thought I'd try and source one myself. RS Components have many types of push button microswitch but I don't know what spec I need. I've attached a...

Hi all , Our old Hansgrohe AKTIV-75T shower pump is leaking and a quick Google makes me think spare parts will be hard or impossible to find. I know zippo about shower pumps so am asking here for recommendations for a new pump please. Ideally with same connectors visible on the picture I've...

    Conservatory Internal Doors malarkey

20 years ago we had a conservatory built on the back of the house which was small enough not to need a planning application. The builder said you really should have internal doors. I told him I would do it later but never did. Fast forward 20 years and now we want to sell the house. What...

Punched a hole into bedroom using new drill - wife not been told yet

So bought myself a new SDS drill after years of putting up with my knackered rotary. Probably way too much power and capability for my DIY needs but you know how it is with power tools. Itching to use it I thought it I would put up a bracket in one of the bedrooms. Mightily impressed with the...

Help identifying a screw from my sons laptop

Hi, I am trying to repair my sons laptop which has a screw missing from the hinge that attaches to the screen. It's a Sony Vaio SVF142C29M from a few years ago. Sony are as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike and so I have to try and work it out myself. I've attached a pic of its brother on...

    Siamp Flush Valve compatibility

Thanks Chris. I did dissolve all the calcium carb off it a year ago so you could be right about the seal. I will buy one and see if that is the problem.

    Siamp Flush Valve compatibility

Hi all Our static caravan has a couple of loos with Siamp Flush valves in that are always trickling and I want to replace them. My local plumbers merchant wants nearly £30 a piece and I am trying to find cheaper. Because the loos are in a really tight space and I am not as young and...

Could a simple fix to our Magnetic filter really have transformed our Central heating?

The first subcontractor just checked the boiler and was gone in a flash after he booked someone to change the isolation valves. The second guy was British Gas and spent a couple of hours replacing the valves. All a bit of a mystery then.

Could a simple fix to our Magnetic filter really have transformed our Central heating?

Could a simple fix to our Magnetic filter really have transformed our Central heating? British Gas put our boiler and associated bits and pieces in about ten years ago. For 10 years we've been disappointed with general warmth in the house during the cold months but just put up with it thinking...

Best way to stabilise sandy mortar in between bricks on wall before painting

After putting it off for months I have run out of excuses not to paint the outside of the house during lockdown - yay! I plan to use Sandtex masonry paint again as the last lot mostly stuck on for several years. Rather than paint over the cracks I thought I'd scrape away a bit and discovered a...

    Replacing Imperial Garden Tap question

You guys are amazing taking your time to help me, thank you. I took the tap off again and took some pics. I see the olive on the pipe now. Do you still think I can use a new tap to screw into the old nut?

    Replacing Imperial Garden Tap question

Hi Terry, Thanks for taking an interest. The nut stayed on the pipe . It could rotate and slide back and forth a couple of cm but wouldn't slide off as it seemed to be retained in some way. I didn't see an olive. Regards, Chris

    Replacing Imperial Garden Tap question

Thanks John and Hugh. That sounds like exactly what I need. I think my Dad has a load of old fittings I can try out to confirm the thread. I've already has the tap off and on so hopefully all will be well. Regards Chris
