    Which boiler should I buy?

Thanks ianmcd, how would I assess that? I guess stopwatch how long it takes to fill a 1 litre jug of water? Is there a standard whereby below a certain volume per minute a combi wouldn’t work? Thanks

    Which boiler should I buy?

Hi, this question has probably been posted 1000x times before, but here goes.... I have a 4 bed, 2 bathroom detached house with an old Ideal Mexico floorstanding gas boiler and gravity fed system. (Which is 33 years old and still working fine!) and 14 radiatiors. I’d like to modernise so...

    iMac 27inch, 2012

Thanks for the reply chalkywhite. I don’t even get a welcome chime. Machine seems totally dead - as if it not even plugged in. I’ve changed the fuse and swapped the power cable (although not with another Apple cable). I. An only assume it’s been fried inside somehow? Unless nothing obvious will...

    iMac 27inch, 2012

Hi, I have an imac which refuses to turn on. completely dead. I don’t believe it’s the cable and have swapped out the fuse for one I know works, but it still won’t turn on. It’s as if no power. On/off button feels as it should. No warning at all just didn’t turn on one day. It’s been sitting for...

    Another decking thread.

Why do you need a membrane if you are laying the deck directly on top of the slabs? I’m soon going to be doing the same but with a much bigger deck. Just going to have the posts/base sitting directly on the concrete slabs.

    Roughcasting bricked up doorway

Thanks Roughcaster, that’s mighty good info. From what you describe it doesn’t seem too tough if you have the materials you mention . Why do I need a piece of bellcast and what should I do with this - all around the perimeter of doorway, screwed to blockwork or bedded into undercoat? If you...

    External cladding

Hi all, Apologies if this request is in the wrong forum. I’ve recently had bifolds put in. I’m thinking about putting up some wooden cladding instead of rouchcasting to match the rest of the house. In the photo, you can see the bit at the top where the blockwork is exposed. Do I have to do...

    Roughcasting bricked up doorway

Hi all, What would be the process for patching up the roughcast on this newly bricked up doorway? Is it something a roughcast novice could try? I do a bit of diy, but never tried this so a little clueless. What would I need to buy and what would be the step-by-step process? It’s round the...

    Shed purchase dilemma

Based on the comments, maybe I should do things in reverse..... Consume lots of beer then go to the DIY shop to buy the shed and see what I come home with . Hopefully it will be a shed!

    Shed purchase dilemma

Hi all, Really looking forward to your feedback here! For roughly the same money you can get: 1. Shiplap dip treated 2. Overlap pressure treated Obviously the best combination would be shiplap pressure treated, but if you had to compromise somewhere would it be in the construction or the...

    Cutting skirting boards

I have some oak veneer mdf skirting i need to fit. I have a chop saw which I was planning to use for the internal and external corners but it was suggested to me to use a coping saw for the internal corners. Is this the best way or is the chop saw equally as good? If coping saw, how do I do it...

How to prep bathroom for retiling

If you go to wickes you can get aquapanel boards. (Usually on offer 3for2). They are cement boards for this purpose. They are not waterproof but water resistant so they don't break up like standard plasterboard. I did my bathroom with these and they are great. Strong surface to tile directly on.

    Ideas for kitchen ceiling

Why not cover it with a nice Matt white ceiling cladding. It fits together like tongue & groove, is super easy, cheap and looks really good. No mucking about with plasterboard et al!

Thanks DIYedboy, that's great advice and exactly why these forums are so helpful.

    PIR boards

Ah, that's a good tip, thanks Would it be better and more proper to stick the insulation board to the wall, then batton the front of the insulation, then screw the plasterboard to the batons, or perhaps the stick together approach (with the correct foam of course) will be adequate. It's only a...

    PIR boards

I can get the insulation board, but without the plasterboard attached. I assume I can stick the insulation board to the wall with adhesive and then stick the plasterboard to that. Seems simple enough - almost too simple! - am I missing something???
