    Fittings taps - putty/mastic required?

Hi Chris, I think When I said slicone gel i meant silcone grease. Isn't the difference between silicone sealant and silicone grease that sealant has to be left to dry but grease never dries so it works imnmediately? I don't understand why the washer would move about if you put silcone grease...

    Fittings taps - putty/mastic required?

As far as i am aware you only need the rubber washer between the tap and the basin, and a plastic nut under the basin. Where did you read that you should have used putty or jointing compound? I would use silicone gel (which plumbers merchants sell in a little tin) on the washer if you really...

    Stablising my bath

What about phoning or otherwise contacting the manufacturers of the bath and asking them how the bath should be secured. To balance the bath could you put something under the feet that aren't fully touching the wooden supports?

    shower pressure

My neighbour lives in a flat with a cistern for the hot water and mains cold water. She doesn't have a boiler. She has an electric shower supplied by a cold water pipe but is unhappy with the water pressure. If a pump was fitted to the cold water connection to the shower would that increase the...

    Lint trap

Has your main soil pipe become clogged up with lint before? I don't know but I would have thought it just gets washed away like toilet paper.

    Boilers and CORGI registered engineers

Does anyone know what people who aren't CORGI registered allowed to do as far as repairing boilers is concerned? Are boilers not supposed to be touched at all by un registered people or are there certain things (i.e. water rather than gas related bits) which can be touched which have no bearing...

poor water flow from hot tap

I thought that maybe airlocks build up over time. I hear about plumbers using hoses to clear airlocks in hot water pipes and flush them out through the vent pipe. Presumably these airlocks weren't stopping the water flow as soon as the pipes were installed, they appeared much later.

    Plumbing & Central Heating

Hi I'm in the second year of the plumbing nvq. Ours was the last year to be accepted without workiing in the trade. No-one in my group has been able to find work experience with a plumber, even working unpaid. But then again almost all of us are older than 30. CORGI have changed their rules...

    tool for wingnut taps

I've had no success trying to turn a wingnut on the right under side of a close-coupled WC to separate the pan and cistern. There's no room for a spanner without cracking the pan (which i've already done). There isn't really any room to fit anything on the other side of the wingnut against the...

    airlock in hot water taps

Hi, A very poor flow of water is coming out of my mum's bath hot water tap. The basin hot water tap is working OK. I understand that I could attach a hose from the cold mains tap to the bath hot water tap to push a possible airbubble out of the vent pipe, but in my plumbing textbook (Plumbing...

    Plumbers Mate?

Im in the second year of a plumbing NVQ. The rules were changed after my year so now you do have to be working in the business to get on the course. The rules have also changed as far as CORGI is concerned in that you have to have experience working with a CORGI registed gas person before you...
