    New toilet under stairs

I am wondering if it is possible to install a toilet and sink under my stairs/ in the alcove. Here is a picture of my house from when i added an extension 5 years ago. The long/short dotted line going down the plan is my main drain pipe that was originally encased in concrete before the...

    Postcrete/Concrete Questions

I am a lady and with the assistance of my daughter we installed 65ft of Jacksons fencing with postcrete. I had 8ft posts with 2ft in the ground and it has not moved, unlike my neighbours that wobbles in the wind!! We put the required amount of water in the hole, using a stick with a marker to...

    How to make a mirror

[/url] I live in Guernsey and that stretch of 75 miles of water puts a lot of companies off, they just don't want to deliver, let alone remove the VAT, but B&Q and Magnet will both order items in. As I want a large mirror, my idea was to order a sliding door, dismantle it and then make a...

Thanks, do you think if you wanted to, you would be able to remove the frame? Do you know who the supplier was?

    How to make a mirror

I would be making the frame myself as well, so could ensure the rebate is big enough to cover any snags. Just need to find a mirror!

Thanks, I hadn't thought about the silver in the back being damaged. Unfortunately B&Q don't have any mirrors big enough for what I want :(

    How to make a mirror

I would like to have an oak framed mirror approx 2 metres by about 60 cm, to be hung landscape on a plastered block wall. I live offshore and we don't have any mirror suppliers, so I can't make one from scratch. However, I was wondering if it was possible to take a mirror from a sliding door...

    Adjusting a soakaway

I can't take any photos of it at the moment it's covered in ground, but it was built with concrete blocks, about a metre square and about the same depth, maybe a bit more. From the house plans I rememeber its about 5 metres from the house. It has a silver coloured lid, the sort with the criss...

    Adjusting a soakaway

A rainwater soakaway was built in my garden 5 years ago but I did not realise at the time that the drain cover would be level with the lawn, over the years I have built up the ground level and laid lawn over the drain cover but the grass never really grows. Is it possible to remove the...

    Lounge renovation

Thanks for your comments. The joist ends in pic one are from the lounge, we cut them down so we were able to remove the joists. About 3 of the joist on the window wall had started to rot. The rear room is ventilated from the back of the house and from the hallway. The floor has, recycled...

    Slate hearth adhesive

Thanks, I used Ardex xg7 plus in grey to fit the slate and have Ardex black flexible grout for the grouting... They wanted £30 + for some slate sealer but I found online that I could use a mix of boiled linseed oil and turps, I have done 2 coats and it has a slight sheen to it and really easy...

    silicon tube storage

I take the nozzle off, place a piece of plastic over the opening and then screw the nozzle back on. When you come to use it next time the dried silicone can just be pulled out nozzle :)

    How many women tackle DIY?

I am a woman and do loads of DIY, just fitted an oak engineered floor this weekend which I am really happy with. I did a quiz on the BBC website once and it said I had a more "male" brain, which I guess would explain why I did all the boy subject when I was at school, woodwork, metalwork and...

    Fireplace and skirting

Yep just reread my post and the waffle about the hearth serves no purpose to my question! Not sure if I will be able to load a photo up but will try explain myself a bit better! I know it makes sense to me!! If you look at the fire place, either side on the front wall, can skirting be fitted...

    Fireplace and skirting

The hetas engineer will fit the stove but I am wondering if oak skirting can be fitted on the front face of the fire opening above the slate hearth. The heartier will be 350mm from the front wall to the edge of the hearth. Between the stove and each side of the opening is about 180mm. Thanks
