    External lighting - dangerous?

It's a 13A fuse. I hear you about the sloppiness and laziness but seeing as the room has just been redecorated it seems an awful lot of messing about with chasing and spurring to get the same effect.

    External lighting - dangerous?

Hi I've moved into a house which has an external light for the patio similar to this http://tinyurl.com/222wtp The trouble begins when I trace the cable for it. The cable leads through the external brick wall to a 3-pin plug which is plugged into a wall socket inside. Is this dangerous...

A good way to build raised decking?

Thanks for all the replies. I think I am going to go with the 2 frame solution. Nothing personal Thermo I just think the costs will be cheaper and it will mean less drilling. Time and money are concerns here. I'll have 3 6x2 beams running the width (parallel to the house wall) of the...

A good way to build raised decking?

No, there doesn't seem to be any flooding at the moment. I think the patio has been down for some time and there doesn't seem to be a history of problems.

A good way to build raised decking?

No, there isn't any :( I've had a butchers at all my neighbours gardens and they don't have them either. Is it necessary? Where would be the best place to put one if I have to?

A good way to build raised decking?

Thanks for your reply freddymercurystwin. I did consider that initially but assumed a few slabs and bricks would be cheaper than another frame underneath. Now it seems some bolts would be cheaper than both. No?

A good way to build raised decking?

Good idea Thermo! A few queries though.... - Would bolting the frame to those retaining walls affect their stability in any way? Would it put any unnecessary strain on them? - Could the vertical posts that support the middle of the frame be in direct contact with the current patio...

A good way to build raised decking?

Hi all Just wanted to pick the brains of the experts to make sure I'm doing this right. I want to build a raised decking area on the patio shown below. I'd like it to be as close to the level of the french doors step as possible so as to eliminate the step down from the...

    Repainting a stone statue

Hi I've inherited an old stone statue that was last painted a good 20 years ago. As you would expect the paint is flaking (more so in some areas than others) and I would like to repaint it. What is the best way to remove the flaking paint? As it is flaking more so in some areas there...

Supply and erect fence - Is this too cheap?

I don't know the purchase price as the quotes do not break it down in that much detail. It's just a final price. They wont be using panels, its all individual featheredge pieces (with arris rail etc etc). The £1170 quote mentioned he gets all parts from the local building/landscaping...

    Fence dilemma

I will be using sleepers or something similar. Is there something I can put inbetween the soil and fence? maybe tarpaulin or something? is the idea shown in the first diagram actually viable? Do you mean 'you are no gardner'? or 'do i not have a gardner'?

    Chopping down Conifers

Eventually got round to digging these up. I opted for a fork, spade and axe and got 8 of them up in around 3 hours - pretty good going I thought. I dug around the base until I hit a root and then axed it. I repeated until the stump moved enough for me to twist it out. Much much easier than I...

    QUIET pull-cord switch for bathroom

I ended up buying one of those slient ones shown on Screwfix (found it cheaper on ebay tho). Fitted it no problems and it is near enough silent and does the job perfectly. No buzzing from mine. If you're looking for a silent pull cord switch (as I did for months) then this is perfect. The...

    Fence dilemma

Hi all I have a quick question that hopefully can be answered by someone of more experience than me. I have had a few quotes for a new fence but as I am also going to do some small landscaping in the garden I need to know if this should be done before or after. Basically the garden...

Supply and erect fence - Is this too cheap?

    Radiator shelves

It mentions 10cm here but it seems that is just a guideline. Doubt there is any hard and fast rule. http://www.housewarming.org.uk/simple_measures/radiators.html Although, most radiator cabinets suggest 20cm between top of radiator and top of cabinet. Are you making the shelf yourself...

Moving a wall socket - best way to fill the void?

The mounting box was screwed into a breeze block behind the plasterboard. I replaced the double socket with a single socket on the left hand side and filled the right hand side. Everything fits perfect now. Thanks for all the suggestions and advice.
