    Concreting in fence posts

Hiya, We bought some wooden fence posts, met posts and some postfix mix to erect a fence. We followed the met post and postfix instructions and it hasn't worked. The met posts are the ones where the metal attaches to the wooden pole and then has as much metal again that goes into the concrete -...

Fitting cat flap to upvc back door

The whole central panel of the door is one, so to change it makes buying a new door better. I'm sure I could scuplt the edges of the panelling to fit a flap, but wasn't sure what the internal constructions was. Is it just UPVC? Would a jigsaw do it?

    Cat flap through wall

Thanks for the advice. I've got another post up about putting it through the door. It's a UPVC one with moulding on the outside, so I guessing not as easy as cutting a hole in one with flat plastic. I might just buy a new door!

Fitting cat flap to upvc back door

What is the internal construction of a upvc back door with some moulding on it? Can I just cut though it with a jigsaw and sculpt the moulding so that the cat flap frame will fit? Am I better trying to go through the wall instead?

    Cat flap through wall

We have a 1930's semi and want to fit a cat flap through the outside wall of the house. What is the construction of the wall - is it just brick, is there a cavity? Also what tools would I need to make enough space in the wall, do I just chisel the bricks out? Any advice would be gratefully...

    Electirc oven problem - Fused?

Yesterday my oven decided not to work. I think we had a powercut and then when the electric came back on the circuit with the oven on kept tripping, the only way to get the house OK is to keep the oven circuit turned off. My boyfriend thinks the oven blew and tripped the circuit rather than a...

Connecting a washing machine to water taps

Hiya, My brother just got given a second hand whirpool washing machine. He's in a new flat and when we connected the pipes to the hot and cold feeds it drips at the connectors when they're turned on, even though we turned them as tight as possible with our hands. I suggested tape or paste...

    New Curtain Rail

Hiya, I need to fix a curtain rail in my bedroom. It's a fairly new house. :?: What is behind the plaster above the window - is it concrete? :?: I was wondering what type of drill bit I'd need and what to expect. I'm a girl and if it needs brute strength I'd rather delegate before I...

cold weather causing my suprima to trip!!??

I called Potterton/Baxi this morning re: my boiler. They're offering 28 days labour guarantee and 1 year parts guarantee. Therefore I guess you'd have to pay a call out charge to get them to look at it again. No idea how much £ that would be.

    Potterton Suprima Reliabilty?

Hiya, Thanks for the advice. Called someone out to look at it (luckily didn't cost) on Thurs. Funnily enough it behaved itself all Fri, Sat and Sun! The guy came out on Mon and couldn't find anything wrong at all. So last night it decided not to work again and this morning too.... typical...

Cleaning out gutters - any advice?

Thermo: I guess they're made of plastic as the house is only 7 years old. The house isn't that high - I think basic ladders from B&Q would cover it.

    Painting over old tiles

Hello, Just bought a house with an eight year old kitchen in a style even my 60 year old mother would consider dated! I was thinking of painting over the tiles and using tile transfers to glam it up a bit. :?: Does anyone think this is a bad idea? (No-one I've spoken to seems to think it...

    Potterton Suprima Reliabilty?

Hello, I have just bought a house approx. 7 years old with a Potterton Suprima that has been there since the house was built. We've been there about a month and at first it worked OK, but now when on running both the HW and CH it keeps cutting out and going to Reset. When we hit reset sometimes...
