Hello,
I have just bought a house approx. 7 years old with a Potterton Suprima that has been there since the house was built. We've been there about a month and at first it worked OK, but now when on running both the HW and CH it keeps cutting out and going to Reset. When we hit reset sometimes it does reset, but more recently it just won't if it has been running for a while. If we leave it a few hours it tends to work again.

I've got someone coming out to look at in on Monday. Our neighbour has the same boiler and has had to replace the Motherboard and also the Thermostat in the past year or so.

:?: Does anyone know anything about the reliability of this boiler?
:?: Could it be that it just needs a service?
:?: Can anyone hazzard a guess at how much a Thermostat / Motherboard would cost?
Cheers.

There are loads of threads about the suprima here, but basically it will need a new circuit board which now comprises of a 3rd revision board, wiring harness and chassis. Parts and labour inc vat expect to be hit for around £250. If you can source a second revision pcb maybe from chrisR on this forum and just pay labour to fit it or even do it yourself, you should more than half that cost.

Depends if it's overheating leading to cutout. Maybe not cooled enough when you hit reset? They do suffer from overheating - what size is it?Sometines a plumbing rror only shows as an overheat after years of running OK.
RRP on a new "board" is £230 I believe so you won't get it done for250.. Give Potty a call, they do a fixed rate repair which varies (!)
You'll may get a new "old" board for about £50 - 60 or a new assembly for more, like £100. Depends what's around and where you want to buy.

Hiya,
Thanks for the advice.
Called someone out to look at it (luckily didn't cost) on Thurs. Funnily enough it behaved itself all Fri, Sat and Sun! The guy came out on Mon and couldn't find anything wrong at all. So last night it decided not to work again and this morning too.... typical!

I do think it's a problem with over heating now though, as the bedroom rad was mega hot this morning just after it had cut out.

I called Potterton like ChrisR suggested: £235 fixed rate (covers call out, all parts, labour, VAT, with a 28 day labour warranty & 12 month part warranty) I'm guessing this will be the cheapest & easiest way to get it sorted.

Oh well, it's just something else to go on my overloaded credit card! :(
