    Cracks around concrete lintels

Thanks, Ken will apply the silicone as suggested. There are no other cracks I noticed similar on other houses on the road. Not sure what you mean by "who else has told you there is a crack there" no one just noticed after we purchased property.

Questions to ask Brickie repointing work

Have had some bad repointing work done on my house abutment and (despite my efforts) the builder refuses to come back and put it right. So I need to get a decent guy in to redo the repointing work. I can ask basic questions i.e. How deeply would you rake out joint? What mix would you use...

Hi Ken, Been at the house a while and the cracks don't close up as far as I can tell. Should I get it investigated?

    Cracks around concrete lintels

Hi Ken, Thanks for your thoughts. How much movement would there be if it is thermal expansion, or to put it another way what's the best way to check for this?

Remove path and drop ground level around house

I want to remove the garden path around my house, it's slightly higher than the ground level around the height of a course of bricks (see pic). So the finished level of the grass in this area will be slightly lower. Will have to lower a few gullies that are embedded in the concrete path as...

30 meter soaker / weeping hose

Just planted a long line of hedging plants and it's taking an age to water. There are 2 rows of plants 30 meters (so 60 meters worth in total). Online I have seen DIY examples of people making their own soaker/weeping hose by adding holes to an old hose. Thinking of splitting the hose and...

    Cracks around concrete lintels

There are some cracks in the brickwork around 2 concrete lintels on the outside of my property. What's the best way to deal with this (am assuming water will get in cracks and it will just get worse if nothing is done to seal them up). Initially, I assumed that repointing was the way to go...

Cheap DIY CCTV or other solution criminal damage to garden wall

Thanks all, I have contacted my councillor and will see what happens. I wonder if given the following I could try a fake camera and sign as well?

Cheap DIY CCTV or other solution criminal damage to garden wall

Someone is damaging my garden wall with their van or tipper truck wheel. Seems like it happened a few times before I noticed it bricks are now loose, with multiple scuff marks. Need CCTV (or something) to prevent this kind of thing from happening. The trouble is I cannot see how I can train...

What is this? protecting services, old path?

So your saying I'm safe to break up carefully. I only ask because I cannot easily get supplies at present if I damage something important.

What is this? protecting services, old path?

Any idea what this is? I want to plant a hedge can I safely break this up? The broken up bits seem rather thin.

    Brick identication

No, but... My advice would be to try these ideas in order of probable effectiveness: Ask your neighbours (Those who own a house with the same bricks as yours). Asking on your local Facebook group (you will likely find people who own a house with the same bricks as yours). Ask local builders...

Breaking up concrete (perhaps a path?) below ground level

Have ordered plants for new hedge. Just finished cultivating the site only to find that there is (what I assume to be) a buried concrete path along the final bit of the planting area (final 3 to 4 meters). The concrete is 25 cm ish below the surface. I guess am concerned that it's protecting...

Garden wall damaged by third party

People keep on parking on the pavement by the road junction near our house. We have just noticed that our new wall has been damaged, by these vehicles (rubber scuff marks and cracking). The point of contact is on the corner of the wall. The vehicles are generally commercial in nature. I have...

Underground drainage bottle gully back inlet question

Thanks for the insight, have ordered what you suggest. Having done some more research we have a combined system, the house was build 1969.

Underground drainage bottle gully back inlet question

Forgive my ignorance... The old drainage servicing my kitchen (kitchen sink / washing machine / dish washer) is split and needs to be replaced. As you can see I need to get it out from a concrete path so need to have everything I need to hand as I cannot visit shops at present and I think...

Water ingress around inside kitchen window

No not (noticed) it hitting the window itself although I would guess it may have come close-ish in very bad weather (it's a 2 story house kitchen on the ground floor). I would guess that the guttering was leaking (downpipe blocked) for some time.
