Repair to small brick wall - what type of 'cement' do I need? [pics included]

I have a small brick wall in my garden, there used to be a large tree just behind the wall and it looks like it's roots have caused the wall to crack. I'd like to repair it to make it a bit more stable and was hoping for suggestions on the best type of concrete/mortar mix for an exterior wall...

    Painting upvc windows

I pained my PVC front door myself with a paint called Frenchic alfresco - they have a Facebook page and you can search for the words window frames on the page to find posts where people have painted their frames. I’m thrilled with the door, the paint was very easy to work with and the finish...

Painting wooden doors - colour leaching through

When I moved into my house the doors were varnished wood. I’d never painted a door before so didn’t know about the possibility of the wood leaching through so I just sanded them and painted with Dulux satin wood which said it didn’t need an undercoat. I ended up doing 4 coats as there were a...

Thoughts from builders - would you be OK with this?

Thanks woody, that's what I was concerned about - I was wondering whether builders would even come out to quote if I mentioned using a second hand door/frame! Like I said I'm more than happy to pay the going rate for the actual work, it just seemed a bit of a no brainer with the door situation.

Thoughts from builders - would you be OK with this?

Was hoping to get the thoughts of professional builders on this... A house I'm hoping to buy currently has a storm porch with a roof and one side has a full height brick wall - see pic at end of post. I'd like to get an enclosed porch built, hopefully using the existing roof and wall. I can...

Do I need to turn the water off? Is this a plumbing issue?!

Thanks everso much for all the responses, I replaced the washer only for the leak to be worse. I then put the old washer back and the leak was still there but not as bad as with the new washer. I then 'jiggled' the sliver part on the end of the rubber pipe and the leak stopped! I genuinely would...

Do I need to turn the water off? Is this a plumbing issue?!

Thanks, is that something I could try and sort myself (tonight?) - if so please be kind enough to advise what I need to do - I really am completely clueless when it comes to DIY! Edit: I've just googled and see that turning the lever stops the water flow so have done that for tonight. If...

Do I need to turn the water off? Is this a plumbing issue?!

I have a condenser tumble dryer and just did two loads of washing and tumble dried for around 1.5 hours. After the last tumbled load I could hear dripping but just presumed it was the machine sorting itself out. The sound continued and I pulled the machine out to find it seems to be leaking...

How to re-fill a boiler/losing pressure (was gurgling rads)

Just to add... I bled the radiators over 24 hours ago and the pressure was fine, could it be a completely different problem that's causing the boiler to suddenly lose pressure ie it was within range when I first posted about teh gurgling, then dropped to 0.7 and now 0.6

How to re-fill a boiler/losing pressure (was gurgling rads)

I remember the flusher asking for the silver hose when he went into the airing cupboard upstairs (where the water cylinder is) but nobody mentioned refilling/topping up. The pressure has dropped to 0.6 now, not sure if taht means something else is wrong? I have taken pics of what's in the...

How to re-fill a boiler/losing pressure (was gurgling rads)

Only a teeny bit of water came out (no sound of any air, just water straight away). There is an indicator on the boiler for what I presume is the pressure and after doing this I checked and it was just above the bottom line, I've just looked now and it's level with the bottom line - see pic...

How to re-fill a boiler/losing pressure (was gurgling rads)

I had a new boiler - a Vaillant EcoTec plus 612 - fitted a few months ago. After the boiler was fitted the radiators were flushed. I haven't used the heating until the last few days so have only discovered now some strange noises going on when the heating is on! The radiator closest to the...

Slight leak on new boiler - problem?

Thanks both, pleased to hear it's nothing untoward. I will mention it for when they next have a job in the area as don't want them to make a special journey if it's nothing to worry about.

Slight leak on new boiler - problem?

The background... I had a new boiler fitted on Friday - a Vaillant Ecotec plus 612. Not sure if this is connected but when I toook my monthly meter readings this morning I noticed that the water meter dial was moving yet nothing was being used in the house, I thought it might have been the...

Does this type of wood/fixing exist? If so what's it called?

Thanks, is there a name for it? I've been googling various ways I would describe it and have come up with a blank! Wood prefer to buy rather than have to try and make it as my DIY skill level is very basic!

Does this type of wood/fixing exist? If so what's it called?

I am looking to fix a french door side panel to an internal wall. My idea was to have a wooden baton with a channel wide enough for the panel (which is the same size as a door) to simply slot into so it can then be screwed/glued. Does such a thing exist? If so what is it called and would it...
