How long should it take to comission a new boiler?

Notifying building control? Can only the original fitter do this then? If this is the case then do I seriously have to get it re-fitted? :? Unfortunately we have paid him - I was recommended by multiple colleagues at work and I had no reason not to trust him - more fool me!! What happens to...

How long should it take to comission a new boiler?

I recently had a Worcester Bosch approved installer fit a boiler and central heating system, he agreed to come back out after the house was plastered so he could comission the boiler. However we arranged to meet the installer and he didn't show. Since this, he hasn't answered his phone to us and...

Can I use Epoxy grout instead of tanking shower?

Yeh, I didn't think about potential movement fractures in the grout. I was hoping I had a more cost effective method of waterproofing my shower. :(

Can I use Epoxy grout instead of tanking shower?

Is there any reason I shouldn't do this? I figure; if the tiles are impermeable and so is the grout then no water should get through to the plasterboard right? :?

How the hell do I fix my newel post to the concrete floor

I'm finally at the stage where the staircase is being fitted in my house but don't know how to fix the newel post to the concrete floor? Is there specialist fixing kits for this, or can I use a couple of "L" brackets? :?

is putting in a temporary consumer unit fraud?

The thing is there's a temporary consumer unit thing, like a 6 plug adaptor with a fuse on it. So the builder still had access to electricity but the rest of the house was isolated.

is putting in a temporary consumer unit fraud?

Bugger! He's already wired the whole house (1st fix) although I have yet to pay him anything... I'm starting to worry whether it's been done properly? So just to clarify; the electrician is liable for the whole fraud issue right?

is putting in a temporary consumer unit fraud?

My builder wanted the electrics disconnecting around the house before starting work. So I called the electrician who came round and disconnected and removed the old consumer unit and fitted a temporary one. The problem arose yesterday when EON came round to replace the meters (they're old and...

Can I ram loftwool into internal stud wall for soundproofing

Cheers for the responses people, I'll give it a bash.. "The same as they do the length of the country in new builds." I did wonder what new builds did - I noticed a lot of them have stud walls when I was house hunting.

Can I ram loftwool into internal stud wall for soundproofing

I know I've been peppering the forums with questions recently, but I've a lot to learn!! I'm building a dividing wall to create two bedrooms and wanted to know if I can use left over loftwool to help dampen the sound?

Should I use washers when screwing plasterboard to studwork?

I am going to fix 30mm insulation and then 12.5mm plasterboard to my rafters using 80mm screws - do I need to use washers to stop the screws going through the plasterboard? :?

How can I insulate above the ceiling of my converted loft?

I had a similar dilema - building regs stated that I needed PIR insulation on a sloping roof. I don't believe there's any other method for fitting this other than what has already been mentioned (take the tiles or the plasterboard off) I opted for ripping out the existing plasterboard - to make...

Can I change the colour of my PVC porch?

I recently bought a house where the previous owner had installed new light oak PVC windows and porch downstairs but the upstairs windows are white. It looks odd to say the least! I really don't like the fake wood windows and want them all white. Is there any method/realistic way to do it [make...

How long does concrete need to dry before I can lay tiles?

It's a 1960's build - the backfill in the original floors wasn't packed down and over the years it settled leaving voids under the concrete. As a result the concrete sank and we had to rip the floors out and start again. So it looks as though I'll be enjoying concrete floors til xmas then!

How long does concrete need to dry before I can lay tiles?

The reason I ask is that I was aiming to move into the house at the end of October and wanted to lay the tiles on the floor before moving in - which would mean the floor would have had approx 13-14 weeks drying time. Do you think I'd get away with it? Will it have any adverse affects if there is...

How long does concrete need to dry before I can lay tiles?

As the title says really; How long does concrete need to dry before I can lay tiles on it? The concrete and screed together are 150mm - it was laid 8 weeks ago.

    loose screed

I have recently (4 weeks ago) had the floor re-laid in my house and the finished screed in areas is loose. If I rub my hand on that particular area the sand just comes away. Is there anything I can treat the surface of the floor with to prevent this happening and get it ready for laying tiles on...
