    Problems recommissioning boiler after flusshing

I’ve a Baxi Solo HE running through 2 honeywell 2 port valves splitting between water and rads on a pressurised system I’m in process of cleaning the system before refilling will inhibitor, as I have previously. For the clean through I first set the pump to high speed. Then switched off the...

    Advice on laying laminate flooring

Thanks Robbie 2 more Qs What's the minimum skirting undercover on an MDF 192 x 1800mm plank on the long length? Given mdf expansion/contraction, is a 3mm cover OK? I'm working on 5mm for the width end. Also Does the short edge fitting go against the wall?

    Advice on laying laminate flooring

I'm about to install this for the first time. On information suppliers' provide it's recommended to: a) start on the left hand wall & b) work away from the window light. Grateful as to why these are recommended. Thanks

Clearing an airlock in a macerator

My attempted cleaning of the AAV didn't change anything. Spoke to Saniflo again and also their local appointed engineer. Both majored on the pump stack and the non-return valve at the head of the unit. Saniflo think the non-return valve is slightly jammed open creating a syphon which eventually...

Clearing an airlock in a macerator

Thanks newboy I've had a go. Below the carbon filter there's a sort of plastic donut shaped disc with a stud in the middle. Disc looks to be at an angle. Cleaned some crap from around the disc's edge and pressed gently down on it towards the slope mainly, but nothing's changed. I' try...

Clearing an airlock in a macerator

Thanks Newboy. The unit was open/detached overnight before I made my reconnection mistake. I've just now removed the shower and wash basin traps, neither of which have AAV, but am still suffering the same noise. It sounds as though either water or air is gurgling into the unit.

Clearing an airlock in a macerator

When first installed, I checked with Saniflo regarding the short pump bursts. They informed that my gravity based installation only required these pumping bursts. As there's been no change in this action, it suggests the micro switch is properly functioning. Also, the Sanislim model has an AAV...

Clearing an airlock in a macerator

Sorry, should have said that a battery-powered alarm to cover overfill can be fitted to all Saniflos. Batteries are changed annually.

Clearing an airlock in a macerator

Thanks Bernard The unit is working OK and doesn't have to work too hard as it only needs to lift the fill to its head before gravity takes over. As a result, the pump usually clears the flushed material in two or three short 3-4 second bursts. That's all still working OK. It's the delayed...

Clearing an airlock in a macerator

Had to disconnect a no problem, well functioning sanilslim from the wc pan in order to properly seal the adjacent shower screen. On reconnection, I made the mistake of flushing to check for leads without first switching the macerator back on. I only realised this error when there was sudden...

What trowel size do I need to get a solid 5mm bed

The aquapanel / plasterboard walls of my new shower room are close to vertical. So, to make the bedding easier, my idea has been to place small 10 x 10mm pieces of 5mm thick plastic cut from glazing packers close to each corner, which would ensure that the tiles would be vertical to the...

    Encasing a soil pipe

Just been speaking to my BC officer about transverse piping. It's not something he's any experience of and suggested checking its use elsewhere. Grateful, therefore, if you could advise of your or others experience of this

    Encasing a soil pipe

Thanks for your advice. I've some small diameter clay pipes of similar age of apparent good strength which we took out of a sock away some years back which look to be the answer. Roughly how far apart should these transverse pipes be set? As to the mix, what ratio of ballast should I add to...

    Encasing a soil pipe

We've just finished a garage extension and I've excavated our 100 year old 6 inch clay soil pipe and now need to infill with 150 mm of concrete as the pipe runs under the garage approach. We're virtually on sandstone bed rock with only several inches of clearance below the pipe. To ensure it's...

Connecting a shower room illuminated cabinert

Thanks ban-all-sheds, I see what you mean. The partition depth between the 2 rooms between each finished surface will be 150 mm, placing a centering of the light circuit cable at around 70 mm,, which I thought was OK as its beyond the 50 mm specified in the regs. If I put this cable into metal...

Connecting a shower room illuminated cabinert

Not sure what you mean, ban-all-sheds The feed cable (still to be connected up to the lighting circuit) has already been installed into what is still the open carcass partition frame awaiting boarding and tiling. This drop point from the ceiling is some 1000 mm from a corner. The cabinet flex...
