The fan needs a permanent supply and a switch live, do both have to be fused down to 3amps?

Problem with a new GRP roof?

I've just climbed onto my 3 week old GRP roof, I knelt down on it to look at the flashing, when I got up, some of the topcoat was stuck to my trousers..............'that's odd' I thought to myself, so I tested a few other areas and sure enough I can push it about a bit like a thin layer of...

    Venting a downstairs loo

Thanks lads, that's a shame...........when you think about it, if you can park a car in a garage that is soaking wet, dries and allows all that moisture into the room and when you start it, it puffs exhaust fumes into the garage, there should be no problem with a loo extractor fan venting some...

    Venting a downstairs loo

I intend to fit an extractor into my new downstairs toilet,it doesn't have a window, can I vent the pipe into the adjacent garage? (there's a bedroom above the garage)

Rendering precautions this time of year?

The builders have smooth rendered my new extension, it's already blown after 2 weeks and has long cracks in!! obviously they've funked the thing right up, are they supposed to take any special precautions ie adding frostproofer?

    finishing off a movement joint

The builders have fitted a movement joint in the thermalite wall and rendered either side of it on the outside. On the inside plugging up the movement gap is a strip of white foam (bit like flat pipe insulation), when I look at the vertical strip from the inside I can see daylight creeping...

what is the difference between a fire door frame and a normal door frame?

Jeez JaK, that's a lot more more complicated than I thought, many thanks for the info, I'd never have done the job like that.........but I will be now!

what is the difference between a fire door frame and a normal door frame?

I have to fit a fire door at the back of my garage that leads into the house, I guess I must also fit a fire door frame too, I was just going to make a door lining but presumably the regs inspector will want something a bit more sexy??

The most thermally effective way to build an external wall?

That's an interesting idea Wood, solar gain can't get back out, mmmhhhh. that would not be good. Regarding the thermal mass reducing frequency of heating cutting back in, this becomes important if you're at home all day, if you're at work and only home for the evening, I would think a faster...

The most thermally effective way to build an external wall?

Are you sure Wood?......................I've got all that lovely insulation on the inside keeping out the heat, plus remember that lovely thermalite block has an open structure so it won't heat up like a 9" brick wall would.

The most thermally effective way to build an external wall?

But is thermal mass an advantage?............if the occupant isn't at home 24hrs a day because they're at work for 10hrs a day 6 days a week the thermal mass argument becomes greatly reduced. I don't want to heat a wall, I want only to heat the air and I want the wall to insulate my heat

The dreaded DPF on diesel cars from 2008 and have they improved?

Could we conclude that the Peugeot diesels may not be as troublesome because their DPF's get fed with those fluids?

The most thermally effective way to build an external wall?

Everyone favours an insulated cavity, but I don't agree, the cavity is not air tight, cavity tray weep vents etc, the insulation only rests on each other and there is bound to be a few gaps. The most effective way must be a 215mm block with thermal plasterboard on the inside cos that's also...

The dreaded DPF on diesel cars from 2008 and have they improved?

Jeez, a Peugeot diesel is in the mini diesel, wouldn't it be great to find out how many manufacturer's use the pug diesels?

The dreaded DPF on diesel cars from 2008 and have they improved?

I believe the Peugeot engine is fitted into Volvo's and possibly Mercedes, I wonder how many makes use the Pug engine?

Loft conversions that get too hot

If your brother's house has a cold loft n no loft insulation that would probably keep the top storey cold. If he's detached with solid walls each storey will suck out the heat

The dreaded DPF on diesel cars from 2008 and have they improved?

I have a Peugeot 406 hdi estate, which for the money (£1200) is probably one of the greatest cars on the planet, I've had the EGR blanked off and life is good. BUT that beautiful vehicle that never goes wrong and gives me 42mpg round town won't last forever and currently buying a diesel with a...

The dreaded DPF on diesel cars from 2008 and have they improved?

A diesel car fitted with a DPF is, in the main a liability if you aren't driving down the motorway at least once a week so the thing gets heated up enough to burn out the clagged up deposits within the DPF. I have read that manufacturer's have learned from how badly the original DPF's performed...

That's sorted then, no point using it unless there is an unusual problem to overcome................pity all the poor buggers that opted for it when it first came out!
