Night Storage heaters and economy 7 electric question

Thanks Macca - the two storage heaters are not connected via a fused wall switch and I have checked both the switches and they are ok as well. I'm inclined to flip the switch as you say on the electric board outside the house- although the switch does only have the markings as I previously...

Night Storage heaters and economy 7 electric question

Your correct - it doesn't answer my question. If you read it again I said "I have a house that I rent out" - meaning I am the Landlord - not the tenant !!

Night Storage heaters and economy 7 electric question

I have a house that I rent out which has 2 night storage heaters - neither are working as they should although I have tested each heater by disconnecting from the wall switch and merely wiring them directly to the ring main and bingo they both work - so nothing wrong with the heaters themselves...

    What's the difference then ??

Just bought some Ceramic MINERAL Floor tiles - is there any difference between these and the bog standard floor tile ? - do I need to seal them after fitting (Talking about bog standard - they are to be fitted in my downstairs loo !!)

what are these called and where to get one from ??

I have spent the weekend sanding down an old oak front door. The door had been treated over the years to copious coats of stain and varnish and god knows what else. Where I have been able to use my sander, i've got rid of all the gung and the bare oak looks pristine. My problem is the door...

Creda night storage heater not working - help !!

Yes - that's a possibility, and indeed a good idea, will try by-pasing the switch and putting the live & neutral in the same terminals on the switch in effect bypassing the switch mechanism - thanks Kev RF - yep, I did indeed take the cartridge out of the CU to test the fuse, even took the...

Creda night storage heater not working - help !!

another update. Checked the fixed circuit from the CU to the wall switch both pos and neg and they are ok. At that point, you would believe that the fault lies a) at the switch or b) along the cable from the switch to the heater or c) the heater itself. But if you look back a couple of posts...

Creda night storage heater not working - help !!

Driller - yes I tested the fuses with a continuity tester, they are the cartridge type - infact I merely touched both ends of the metal prongs of the cartridge with the fuse in place so I know it's ok As for drilling or nailing - as I said before this fault is in a house I rent out and it...

Creda night storage heater not working - help !!

heres an update lads !! - first I checked the switch next to the heater and that was fine. Took off the cover to the heater (thanks Driller) and found the thermal link was ok (tested with continuity tester) Then bypassed the circuit by disconnecting the incoming wires (from the consumer unit)...

Creda night storage heater not working - help !!

Thanks RF - yep, did think about burnt out elements but as there is no heat at all, that would mean all the elements have failed similtaneously - me thinks not. This heater is in a house which I rent out so I will be over there tomorrow for a look see. thanks again fellas

Creda night storage heater not working - help !!

Many thanks for that Driller excellent reply - I will have a look see tomorrow. My concern will be is that if I replace the fuse and it blows again thats a tenner down the drain - suppose its worth a try and as you say if it goes again will have to get another input thermo - cheers.

Creda night storage heater not working - help !!

No - there is no neon light on the wall switch. It's merely a on/off rocker switch without the neon. I'm assuming that the switch isn't faulty I do have other storage heaters in the house all working perfectly - I am aware they only heat overnight. The heater has been working ok and has...

Creda night storage heater not working - help !!

I've got a Creda storage heater model 79161 which has stopped working. I thought it might be the fuse burnt out at the fuse box, but ive tested that and its ok. I thought there may be another fuse at the wall switch but there isn't. I can only think there is a fuse built into the heater...

    Servis 1600 spin washing machine

I have noticed a slight water trickle coming from the door of my machine - it doesn't appear to be leaking on every wash but only occassionally. Is there any adjustment I can make to the door fitting or does the rubber seal need attention ? - The machine is still within its first year...

Now - just WHAT IS that stuff called - is it any good ?

well John - thats a very comprehensive reply !! - if I could get the stuff off I would but it wont budge - i'm reluctant to use lining paper, cos thats just in effect what I had up before eg, wallpaper painted over with magnolia emulsion.

Now - just WHAT IS that stuff called - is it any good ?

Just taken off some wallpaper together with the thin polystyrene layer - you know the stuff I mean, its in a roll and you put it on the walls before you paper - supposed to have insulation qualities and it forms a smooth service, anyway - it's all come off and I am left with a very badly pitted...

quarter turn monobloc kitchen taps question

About a year ago I fitted a new monobloc kitchen tap - the quarter turn jobbies. I have found that whilst the hot tap turns on and off fine, the cold tap is getting very tight to turn either on or off. I took out the valve and had a squint, and all seems ok, when not in it's housing the value...

    Toilet will not flush !!

My loo has suddenly decided it will not flush, I thought initially it was the plastic link rod that attaches to the handle and lifts the syphon plunger but that is all ok. In fact looking inside the cistern all looks ok. I adjusted the ball value so as to introduce more water into the system...

Paint flaking on soffit - why ??

I carried out some painting a couple of years ago on the outside of my house, windows, facias soffits etc. The paint on the wooden windows and facias is still as good as new but the paint on the soffits has all pealed badly and looks a complete mess. I recall when I carried out the painting...
