Sould I get my 'drains' checked?

Some of the pipe is fairly exposed, I can dig that bit out. There are no inspection chambers in the run of pipe I am concerned about. Some sections of it run under patio as well, I'd rather not dig that out! There are no obvious signs of waterlogging, but it is just odd the way the soil...

Sould I get my 'drains' checked?

Over the last year, there often seem to be holes and voids apearing along the outside of the garage wall. I know that a fairly shallow running clay drainage pipe runs along the back of the garage. The first holes were due to rats. ( now dead and gone I hope! ) Now, more voids seem to be...

arrrgh! water hammer again! - time for a shock arrester?

The water hammer or (should I say water squeal !) is only evident at the fluid master valve at the moment, so does clipping the pipes stop 'water hammer' (presure wave), building up in the plumbing system and becoming evident in all sorts of differnt places?

    disabled access

He could also realy be advising what work 'needs' to be done. When I say 'need', this is more to do with needs of the disabled person, rather than the need to meet building regs. Social services will also install handles, shower chairs, ramps and all sorts of things, if they are needed.

    Funny Customers

maybe I should get a few more builders/ painters /gas fitters in for quotes! Even if I was single, I haven't seen many tradesmen I would be interested in. I was out on the town one night with a friend of mine, and I bumped in to a plumber/gas fitter I had used on several occasions for...

New Kitchen Flooring Need Some Advise

I'm only a DIYer, but my sugestion would be to lift the carpet. If the old tile floor is level and not damp, you can remove all lose dust and lay vinyl flooring over the tiles. I would use vinyl flooring that come in a contious length on a roll. I just did my parents bathroom and it cost...

    Tile paint

We had very 'nasty' tiles in our bathroom (floor to ceiling!) and used tile paint (international). This was about 4 years ago I've just go round to re-tiling the bathroom now and it lasted well. As gcol says it is better applied with a foam roller and I think we used several coats to get a...

How can I 'service' the mira? I may have to remove it anyway to tile behind it and thought that might be a good time for a replacement. ( old one about 15 yrs old). I want a thermostatic mixer, budget is about £150 Centres on exiting one are 155- 160mm Head of water is about 1m ( top...

    recomend me a shower mixer!

I want to replace a shower in the bathroom ( currently old Mira Excel ). I made the mistake in the en-suite bathroom or plumbing in a 'cheap' shower that gives a diabolical flow rate ( a lot worst then the mira excell it replaced!)- and I don't want to make the same mistate again! Any...

trim to go around shower mixer valve pipes

I don't know what they are called! When removing the tiles around my shower mixer ( old ev mira excel ) I managed to brake the flat crome coloured discs that go over the tiles, where the feed pipes come out of the wall. Are they a standard 'plumbing' item and will I be able to get...

    Dot and dab with what?

It is only a small area, literally the lintel itsself, which is only 2 foot long. I I may even be able to make up the difference in height ( 2 cm) with tile adhesive, but I don't want to tie directly on to a concrete lintel!

    Dot and dab with what?

Would a DIY place do that stuff or do I need to go to builders merchant? Does it come in small quanities?

    Dot and dab with what?

I have had a lintel put in above a bathroom window ( I found a builder at last to do it)! The wall and the window reveal will eventually be tiled, but first I need to 'finish' the surface, as it is only rough blockwork and not at the same level as the surounding wall. I don't rate my chances...

    Light pipes?

We had one fitted a few years ago. I think I got it through build base or Jewsons. I can't remember the make, but it has a flexable foil tube rather than a ridgid pipe. It doesn't give as much light as a window or velux would, but the alternative would be an area at the top of the stairs with...

    Choices For A New Hedge?

If you find someone in your area ( wide area), who can supply bare-rooted cuttings (whips) of native mixed hedging, you can give them a call. The suppliers are sometimes really knowledgeable about what hedge is best where. We got great advice about a 20m hedge we put in about 3 years ago. We...
